Manchester United are leading the race to sign Chelsea target Declan Rice
It has been reported that Manchester United are about to overcome Chelsea in the race to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Declan Rice has left a remarkable history in this season's Premier League for West Ham and is now considered one of the best holding midfielders in the English event. Rice grabbed the third spot in the FWA award, trailing Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne. The 23-year-old has secured five goals and four assists in 46 appearances across all competitions.
Demand for the West Ham midfielder increases
The Blues monitored his exceptional performance and now want him to rejoin the club. Chelsea has attempted to secure the 23-year-old's transfer, but their chances seem slim due to the ongoing ownership takeover matter and other issues. The former is in a position to secure the signature of the talented holding midfielder. Although a few teams remain in the race for the English title, Old Trafford has the financial power to strike a lucrative deal.
After proving himself through his consistency in front of the Premier League fans, Declan Rice is currently one of the best holding midfielders. His form significantly improved over the past few years, especially after seeking refuge under West Ham manager David Moyes who entrusted him with a prominent role. Before that, he had joined the academy of Chelsea in 2006 as a seven-year-old and then walked into West Ham United in 2014.
Is Declan Rice better suited as a Chelsea midfielder?
Through the years he spent at Chelsea academy, the 23-year-old familiarised himself with the structure and demands of the West London club. Now, he has plenty of Premier League experience and would be much more capable of understanding and implementing Thomas Tuchel's strategies than other foreign newcomers. Despite the close bond between Chelsea and Rice, Manchester United are in pole position to sign the West ham United midfielder Declan Rice.
Meanwhile, West Ham boss David Moyes revealed that he values Rice at more than £100million, further increasing the amount to £150million in a later interview. The player also disclosed that his teammates teased him about the price tag. At the same time, Rice has tried to dismiss news or rumours surrounding his departure. Now, the Blues board are expected to maintain a smooth relationship with the entourage of the West Ham midfielder. It is up to the former Chelsea player to make the call, and likewise, the Blues might have a chance to convince him to take a transfer once the ownership debacle concludes.
