Manchester City brushed aside Sevilla 3-1 in the Champions League
The headlines for the match was Erling Haaland after his two-strike took Manchester City's tally to 12 in just eight appearances and his overall Champions League haul to 25 in 20 outings
Sevilla must be feeling sick seeing him again as he had stuck four goals against them in a two-legged tie for Borussia Dortmund in 2021.
Manchester stars John Stones, Kyle Walker and Aymeric Laporte were out injured, manager Pep Guardiola drafted in deadline-day signing Manuel Akanji for his debut and handed Sergio Gomez the first start.
Manchester City threatened as Haaland glanced a header wide, Joao Cancelo had an attempt blocked, and Jack Grealish rifled into the side-netting.
De Bruyne found his touch after blasting the ball over the net twice and could tee up Haaland. Foden played him in with a pass, and De Bruyne whipped a first-time cross from the right side. Haaland read the cross perfectly and could volley it in from close range, giving City the lead 20 minutes into the game.
City's dominance continued as De Bruyne fired a free-kick into the side-netting. Haaland combined with Grealish before shooting at Yassine Bounou from a tight angle.
Sevilla had a chance to score right before the half, but Alejandro Gomez's shot went over the bar from a Thomas Delaney through-ball. The hosts tried to start the second half positively, pushing City back, but the visitors held their ground. Haaland almost scored with a misfired volley, and Rodri shot over before City doubled their lead just before the hour with Foden's well-placed effort.
Foden showed great composure inside the area by wrong-foot Nemanja Gudelj and guide a left-foot shot into the bottom corner, breaking down the right side for the visitors.
Still, Haaland grabbed his second in the 68th minute when he pounced on a rebound after Bounou. Suso finally shot on target for Sevilla in the 82nd minute. Still, Dias wrapped up an emphatic win for City after Julian Alvarez had an effort cleared off the line in injury time.
