Liverpool will take on Benfica tonight for the first leg of the Champions League Quarter-finals tie.
In previous occasions, when the teams have played at this point in the contest, Liverpool was victorious in both games and then lifted the trophy.
Emlyn Hughes and Jimmy Case hit in Lisbon to set the stage for Liverpool, winning the final game against Brugge on the pitch at Wembley.
A year later, Liverpool won 5-1 on aggregate, which helped them get to their famous victory in Rome.
Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool have already won the Champions League together. And are already working hard to quadruple their success after defeating Inter Milan in the last round and a domestic win over Watford on the weekend.
Benfica are disturbed by their top brass
Controversy with coach Jorge Jesus and midfielder Pizzi, following Porto's 3-0 defeat in the Portuguese Cup, erupted after the coach was suspended for a match.
Reportedly, one of the captains, Pizzi, made fun of coach Jorge and then a heated confrontation ensued between them. Although Pizzi denied the accusations, Jorge Jesus stopped Pizzi from training with the first team.
Players criticized the decision and decided that they also wouldn't train if Pizzi weren't allowed. Forty-eight hours later, Jorge Jesus was reported to have left Benfica.
Even the club President from 2003, Luis Filipe Vieira, was placed under house arrest at the start of the year.
Vieira subsequently resigned over alleged corruption in the tax system and funds laundering. However, there has been no conviction to date, and his lawyers have denied the accusations.
Liverpool's journey to the quarter-finals
Liverpool were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Champions League by Real Madrid in the previous season after a grueling 3-1 loss at the Bernabeu proved too much for them to overcome.
They were considered favorites going into the tie, and they are again in the last eight-game as they take on Benfica.
Jurgen Klopp's squad is expected to breeze through to the semi-finals, where they will take on Villarreal or Bayern Munich.
