Liverpool defeats Manchester City 3-2 and makes it to the FA Cup final
Manchester City won against Liverpool 3-2 in a FA Cup semi-final match at Wembley Stadium on April 16, 2022. It was a tough win for Liverpool against current Premier League titleholders.
Manchester City was equally matched with Liverpool during the first half. Liverpool started aggressively, getting an early lead which helped them seal the victory. They had controlled 51% of the ball and took 24 shots, compared to 49% possession and ten shots by Manchester City.
Ibrahima Konate in the 9th minute and Sadio Mane in the 17th and 45th minute were the goal scorers for Liverpool, while Jack Grealish in the 47th minute and Bernardo Silva in the 1st minute of the extra time after the 90th minute scored for Manchester City.
After receiving a perfect delivery from the Scottish defender Andrew Robertson, Ibrahima Konate opened the scoring for Liverpool with a header that went into the net past the Manchester City goalkeeper Zack Steffen. Just eight minutes later, Sadio Mane doubled the lead with a close-range shot, pushing the score to 2-0.
In the last minute of the first half, Sadio Mane further increased the lead with a volley shot from the undefended right corner of the box into the bottom corner of the net after receiving a brilliant pass from Thiago Alcântara.
Manchester City fought back in the second half, making a comeback in the 47th minute as Gabriel Jesus latched onto the ball and dribbled past Fabinho, passing the ball to Jack Grealish, who fired it into the net past Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker with a well-composed shot.
No further goals were scored in the second half until the extra time when Riyad Mahrez burst past Andrew Robertson and sent a cross that landed on the feet of Bernardo Silva after being deflected by Alisson Becker. Silva sent the ball into the bottom corner of the net, taking the score to 3-2.
Manchester City did not have enough time to equalize the scores. Liverpool emerged victorious in the semi-final match with a score of 3-2, sealing their spot in the final for the title prize.
