Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets disappointed with Girona draw in Catalan Derby
Barcelona's recent woes continued as they were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Girona in the highly-anticipated Catalan derby on Monday night at Spotify Camp Nou.
After suffering a humiliating 0-4 loss to Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey, Barca were desperate for a win in La Liga to regain their confidence, but their lack of creativity and clinical finishing was evident once again.
Speaking to BarcaTV+ after the match, captain Sergio Busquets, who was one of the standout performers on the night, expressed his disappointment with the team's performance, and said: "We had difficulties in the first half. We didn't press well and we didn't create clear chances to score."
The veteran midfielder acknowledged that while Barcelona still holds a comfortable 13-point lead over Real Madrid, they cannot afford to be complacent and must strive to win every match remaining in the season. "Our goal is to win the league. It's true that we have a good lead, but we don't want to lose any matches. Our next match is against Getafe, and we have to win," Busquets emphasized.
Young defender Alejandro Balde, who was once again favoured over Jordi Alba at left-back, also shared his thoughts on the match, saying, "We wanted to increase the lead, but we have to keep working."
The 19-year-old pointed out that Barcelona lacked the cutting edge in the final third, stating, "We missed several chances and lacked effectiveness. It's a long season, and we still have matches to play. We have to keep fighting."
Echoing similar sentiments, fellow defender Jules Kounde expressed his frustration with the result, saying, "We're disappointed as we wanted to win today. We had good moments, but we lacked the finishing touch."
Kounde praised the team's efforts in pressing and ball recovery but acknowledged that sometimes football doesn't go as planned. "We have to keep working hard, as there are 10 matches left. We need to stay on the same path and continue to give our all," Kounde added.
When asked if he had a message for the fans, Kounde urged them to believe in the team and have faith in their abilities. "We will do everything in our power to win the upcoming matches," he reassured.
The draw against Girona means that Barcelona missed an opportunity to extend their lead over Real Madrid to 15 points. With 10 matches remaining in the season, the pressure is on for Barca to rediscover their form and finish the season strong.
As they strive to defend their top spot in La Liga, the team will need to find their creativity in the final third and convert their chances into goals.
