Klopp not worried about Salah’s revenge mission against Real Madrid, Mbappe's decision affecting their build-up
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is not concerned about Mohamed Salah’s mission for revenge against Real Madrid that could affect the Champions League final on May 29
The Egyptian international was replaced in the first half of the 2018 final against Madrid due to injury and has been verbal about seeking revenge when they meet again. However, Klopp is unbothered by the mild hostility shown by Salah explaining that every player will have their own motivation for the clash.
The German said: “We don’t have to worry about it taking over too much, it’s completely normal. We all lost that day but he did get injured very early in the game; he’s in very good shape but he was then in good shape too. It’s a normal feeling we all get and everyone is motivated by different things – I have 26 players here who are all motivated by different things and that’s completely fine. I have no problem with that. The only issue is if that is the only motivation but that is not the case in most cases – it’s normal that Mo wants to put things right."
After losing to Los Blancos in 2018, Liverpool made a comeback the next year to win the club’s sixth European trophy after beating Spurs. Klopp admitted that their opponent in this year's final match is the most decorated club in the Champions League with some players winning the title five times and the manager five times. However, the Reds will play their third final in five years which is nothing short of special as stated by Klopp.
Kylian Mbappe's fallout has affected Real Madrid's build-up
Real Madrid's president Florentino Perez was confident about striking a deal with the World Cup-winning France forward, Kylian Mbappe but the star chose to stay at Paris St-Germain instead. As expected, Madrid blew up and the resulting fallout is affecting their build-up to their bid for a 14th Champions League title that Real Madrid is targeting. Madrid is now fuming over Mbappe's decision to reject their offer mainly because of the narrative given by club president Florentino Perez. According to sources close to the president, Mbappe had already started to look for a property in Madrid and Perez had prepared the star's slated presentation in front of the fans.
Furthermore, Mbappe had been rejecting new contract offers from PSG over the last eight months which confirmed their doubts about the star joining Madrid. However, Mbappe had already said he would reveal his decision at the end of the season. Although he didn't say no to Madrid, he said yes to PSG and stay back in France. On being asked about his ties with Madrid, he said, "You never know what can happen in the future," meaning he might. As for the 23-year-old, he gets more money and also a sense of familiarity back in Paris.
