Karim Benzema is the Champions League Player of the year, Vinicius Junior is Young Player of the season
Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema is awarded The Champions League Player of the Season following an impressive 2020-21 season, in which he finished as the top scorer, UEFA said on Tuesday
France international Benzema, 34, was crowned the winner for the fifth time when Real Madrid defeated Liverpool in the final 1-0, with fifteen goals over 12 matches which included hat-tricks in the final against Paris St-Germain and Chelsea in the knockout stage.
Vinicius Junior, Benzema's teammate, who scored the one goal during the final in Paris, was named the season's Young Player.
The pair were also named to the Team of the Season, Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who played a prominent role in the match on the Stade de France.
The runners-up, Liverpool, were represented by defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson, and midfielder Fabinho.
PSG forward Kylian Mbappe and Chelsea defensive player Antonio Rudiger and Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne also consisted the team.
Karim Benzema and Vinicius jr. were named players of the season.
The French player had won the tournament for the fifth time when Real Madrid defeated Liverpool by 1-0 at the end of the competition.
He scored 15 goals over the 12 Champions League games and is the leading contender to take home the prestigious Ballon d'Or.
Vinicius Jr., Benzema's teammate who scored the game's sole goal, was selected as the tournament's youngest player of the year. He scored four goals and contributed six assists in the 2021-22 season.
The Brazilian forward ended a remarkable season with a single score to beat Liverpool at the Stade de France final after burying Federico Valverde's cross at the post in the 59th minute.
The strike was his 4th strike in his Champions League campaign, followed by six assists - an amount that was beaten only by Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United.
Most of these assists helped set the stage for goals in the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League Player of the Season Karim Benzema. Together, the two formed an effective team.
As Benzema provided power and predatory instincts, Vinicius Junior excelled with his pace, quick feet, and creativity, best displayed by his sensational solo goal in Shakhtar Donetsk's 5-0 group stage victory.
Neymar Jr. names Vinicius Jr. the best player in the world
As a result of his winning goal in Saturday's UEFA Champions League final, Brazilian soccer legend Neymar named his national teammate Vinicius Jr. as the world's best player.
It was the 14th Champions League title for Real Madrid. While Karim Benzema and Neymar's PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe are expected to contend for the Ballon d'Or this season, Neymar's Brazilian teammate's powerful performance helped him create quite a statement.
Neymar said in an interview, "Mbappe had a great season, Benzema too. But from what I've seen, Vinicius Junior is the best player in the world,"
Having played with Mbappe for both club and country, Neymar has a unique perspective on the situation.
Following a season in which he scored 22 goals and assisted 20, Vinicius Jr. certainly has a shot, but his numbers don't stand out as much as Benzema's do.
