Indian Super League: Subhasish Bose clinches win for ATK Mohun Bagan against NorthEast United
ATK Mohun Bagan (ATKMB) down NorthEast United (NEUFC) in an exciting 2-1 encounter and the Kolkata giants have now climbed to the second spot in the rankings table
Liston Colaco and Subhasish Bose scored against Aaron Evans' goal to extend the Mariners' unbeaten run to five matches. NEUFC had a dominating start to the game, but the Mariners countered the attack with a quick goal.
Joni Kauko's cross-field throw was found by Dimitri Petratos, who slotted it in, but the cheer vanished when the flag was raised at the far side. Juan Ferrando instructed his players to strike between the lines, and Mark Balbul advised his team to focus on the wings.
The Gogoi brothers, Parthib Gogoi and Pragyan Gogoi tried to score, but the goalkeeper blocked Parthib Gogoi's shot. Liston Colaco and Hugo Boumous lodged failed attempts in the next few minutes.
In the 21st minute, Romain Philippoteaux took his position on the right, but Subhasish Bose cornered him at a tight angle that thwarted his shot. Liston Colaco created a solid opportunity at the back post, but Manvir Singh's effort exceeded the bar.
Liston Colaco took matters into his own hands but could not convert. Shortly after, Hugo Boumous initiated a counter-attack and assisted Liston Colaco with the match's first goal.
He netted from a tight angle, and the shot went past Mirshad Michu's right. In the 41st minute, Hugo Boumous found a chance to extend their lead.
He tried to strike a shot from Subhasish Bose's cross it couldn't get past the shot-stopper, who was quick in his movements.
In the second half, NEUFC changed their game and pressured the opposition. In the 51st minute, the Gogoi brothers almost initiated a goal.
Pritam Kotal blocked Pragyan Gogoi's shot, but Parthib Gogi quickly gained possession. He aimed the ball past the alarmed goalkeeper and tapped it with the outside of his boot, but it was a miss.
Subhasish Bose fired through the ball from the left in the 57th minute, and Dimitri Petratos intercepted it only to send the ball wide. After a tedious progression into the final quarter, NEUFC finally equalised in the 81st minute.
Jithin MS's corner found Jon Gaztanaga, who launched the ball at the first post, and Aaron Evans headed home. ATKMB upped their intensity, and the subsequent attacks called for Mirshad Michu's undeterred attention.
In the 89th minute, Subhasish Bose scored the winner for ATKMB. They swarmed the penalty box at the right corner, and NEUFC couldn't stop the ball.
Dimitri Petratos hit a clean cross that found Subhasish Bose at the perfect moment. Despite an improved performance from NEUFC, they remain winless after six matches.
"We deserved one point because we created good chances to score," said coach Marco Balbul. "But in the last minute, unfortunately, we lost concentration and lost the chance to get one point."
However, he signed off on a competitive note: "They [NEUFC] fought until the last minute crazily. If we compare the GPS of my team to that of ATKMB, I'm sure my players were better."
