The 23-year-old was expected to switch to Spain and link up with international teammate Karim Benzema, but he solidified his alliance with PSG. Spain's La Liga called the deal "scandalous" and voiced their interest in filing a complaint to UEFA and French and EU authorities. The value reportedly affects the economic sustainability of European football besides putting jobs and the integrity of the sport at risk.

According to reports, PSG placed a signing-on fee of €150million to Mbappe, hoping to keep him for another two seasons. He had set up a financial agreement with Real months ago, facilitating his potential switch to Spain. However, he changed his mind later and said he was "delighted" to stay back as club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi announced the striker's new deal with the club. The announcement came before their match against Metz in their final Ligue 1 match. French champions PSG, who suffered another failure this season at the hands of Madrid, were desperate to keep the 23-year-old.

Mbappe confirmed his choice over a phone call to Perez

On Saturday, the forward had called Real Madrid's president Florentino Perez to notify him about his intention to sign a new deal with PSG, something that fans were least expecting. The news will arrive as a real blow to the Champions League finalists, who are now targetting a summit clash victory over Liverpool as their bid for an unprecedented quadruple ended on Sunday. Madrid is heartbroken over missing out on Norwegian sensation Erling Haaland, who will join newly crowned English Premier League title holders Manchester City in the summer.

Mbappe's mother didn't see much difference in both offers

Mbappe's mother, Fayza Al-Amari, had reportedly said that the forward had deals agreed with both Real and PSG, so it was up to him to make a final decision. She said, "There are no new meetings to negotiate the future of Mbappe after the expiration of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain. These meetings have ended. We have an agreement with Real Madrid and another agreement with Paris Saint-Germain, and the negotiations have already ended. Now Kylian Mbappe has to choose."

The French native further continued, "The two offers are equal from Real Madrid and Saint-Germain, there are no big differences between them, but we are waiting for Mbappe to choose what he wants. The Real Madrid offer in which we have complete control over the rights of the images, and on the other hand, there is a financial compensation that compensates for this. The two offers do not differ greatly between them, they are equal."
