Gregor Kobel praises Mats Hummels following Borussia Dortmund rout of Wolfsburg

Borussia Dortmund put on a dominant display against Wolfsburg on Sunday, winning 6-0 and keeping their hopes of winning the Bundesliga title alive.

Borussia Dortmund kept their Bundesliga title hopes alive with an impressive 6-0 victory over Wolfsburg on Sunday, but the result was not just down to the attacking prowess of their players.

The Black and Yellows were also indebted to the heroics of goalkeeper Gregor Kobel and the defensive contributions of Mats Hummels.

The experienced centre-back, who turned 34 later this year, was a rock at the heart of the Dortmund defence. He made several important recoveries throughout the game and also won the ball in the build-up to his side's second goal.

Speaking to media after the match, Kobel was full of praise for his teammate. "Mats had a very strong game. He's doing an outstanding job this year. It's certainly not easy when you don't play every game, but he's always there for the team. When he comes in, he always performs.

"He's an outstanding central defender, an outstanding person, and very professional both on and off the pitch," said Kobel.

Despite being a key player for Dortmund in the first half of the season, Hummels was left out of the Germany squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and has only been used sporadically in the second half of the campaign.

However, the club's sporting director Sebastian Kehl said after the game that the defender is someone they can always rely on.

Hummels' contract with Dortmund is set to expire at the end of the season, but the club would like to keep him on. Given his impressive performances in recent weeks, it's clear that he still has a lot to offer at the highest level of the game.
