Gavi becomes Spain's youngest scorer at Nations League
Gavi became Spain's youngest goal scorer ever, as Inigo Martinez scored an equalizer in the final minutes to draw Spain 2-2 with the Czech Republic in the Nations League in Prague
Gavi scored just three minutes into the opening-half stoppage time, following a ball by Rodri, who took advantage of a poor clearance.
Gavi scored at the age of 17 and 304 days, setting a record as he levelled the score in the first half at 1-1 at halftime
Liverpool closes the case on Gavi after new Barcelona offers details surfaces
17-year-old Barcelona midfielder Gavi was a top player in the eyes of Liverpool this summer following an outstanding year at Barcelona.
The Merseyside team seems determined to activate Barcelona's release clause to boost midfield options.
Jurgen Klopp has labelled him an "excellent market opportunity" and has been following the player's development.
However, Liverpool has reportedly decided to "close the matter" regarding Barcelona midfielder Gavi following the revelation of a new deal signing at his current club.
The Merseyside club was planning to activate the €42 Million release clause within the contract of the 17-year-old that is due to expire in 2024.
In the words of Barcelona President Joan Laporta, Gavi's camp has been quiet during talks regarding an extension, saying that Gavi's representatives have had the renewal proposal in the works for a while. Still, they don't have any confirmation that he's accepted the offer.
The possibility of a departure was raised for Gavi, with Liverpool being among the most likely clubs to sign him.
His release clause will be set at €860 Million, which means that Liverpool has been forced not to go ahead with the signing.
As per Steve McManaman, signing Gavi was not the best decision, even though the youngster had played seven times in Spain's national team before 18.
"Liverpool doesn’t need Gavi at this moment in time," McManaman said. "Maybe they could have an eye on him for the future, but I just think at this moment it won't happen."
The former Liverpool player added, "If you were picking between Jude Bellingham or Gavi, you'd pick Jude because of the size of him, the experience he has, and the fact that he's played 100 more games."
Fabrizio Romano offers an update on the Gavi situation
The ongoing contract dispute between Gavi and Barcelona could finally come to an end. It's reported that the youngster's agent had received the latest offer from the club.
President Joan Laporta had a bit of a smack on Ivan de la Pena recently concerning the delay of the agreement, which the midfielder's agent later denied, saying that the player was waiting to hear about the offer.
Italian reporter Fabrizio Romano claims that Gavi's agent has been informed of the proposal, and negotiations will continue over a five-year contract to get a €1 billion release provision.
"Negotiations between Gavi's camp and Barcelona will resume in the coming days after his agent finally received the official proposal for the new contract. ???? #FCB"
"Gavi's priority is to continue at Barça - while the club is offering a five-year deal with €1B release clause."
