Football Transfer Window : Manchester United are all set to foil Arsenal's Lisandro Martinez's plans

Erik ten Hag would like Martinez to accompany him from Amsterdam to Manchester. Arsenal is also interested in Martinez and made a new bid of €40 million for him on Tuesday.

Erik ten Hag is eager to reunite with Martinez at Old Trafford after working with the defender in Amsterdam for the past three years.

Manchester United has formally tabled a bid to outbid Arsenal for the Argentina international.

According to reports, Manchester United considers themselves the favourites to sign the Argentina international, who spent three seasons in the Eredivisie under Ten Hag.

Martinez has yet to decide because neither Manchester United nor Arsenal have reached an agreement with Ajax.

Ajax demands a higher fee, but further negotiations over the weekend are expected to settle on a final price.

Martinez's pursuit by Arsenal continues, and personal terms would not be an issue for the north London club. The question is which club can agree on a fee with Ajax and who Martinez will join.

Martinez, who has mostly played as a centre-back but can also play on the left and in defensive midfield, has made 120 appearances for Ajax since joining Defensa y Justicia in 2019.

Manchester United sees Martinez as a different type of centre-back than Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Raphael Varane.

The bid is comparable to Arsenal's most recent offer for Martinez, which was around €40 million (£35 million), plus a further €5 million (£4.3 million) in add-ons.

Ajax has yet to respond to the most recent bids and has privately stated that they do not want to sell the 24-year-old.

Those close to the player believe that the Dutch champions want to drag things out as long as possible to spark a bidding war between the Premier League rivals.

Premier League clubs are also looking for other Netherlands-based players.

Fulham is interested in Eric Bailly, but sources say he wants to fight for his place at United and will report to training on Monday. Clubs are also interested in Phil Jones.

Martinez is primarily regarded as a left-back by Arsenal. On Friday, it was revealed that another Dutch player, Feyenoord's Tyrell Malacia, had agreed on personal terms with Manchester United.

The 22-year-old is believed to have agreed to a four-year contract with an option for a fifth year.

The contract has not yet been signed, but Malacia may have a medical over the weekend.

Malacia would be Ten Hag's first signing since taking over for Ralf Rangnick. Meanwhile, Manchester United is still trying to sign Frenkie de Jong, and Christian Eriksen remains a target.
