Football Transfer News: Names Brighton is considering after Graham Potter's exit
According to reports, Brighton has compiled a list of potential applicants for the head coach position
Brighton is now fourth in the Premier League with one loss and five wins from their first six games.
Even though luck has changed at the Amex Stadium, the team's improvement was displayed in last weekend's 5-2 victory over Leicester.
After three years at the Amex Stadium, Potter, now 42, signed a five-year, £50 million contract with the West London club.
The former Albion manager brought with him to Stamford Bridge his deputy Billy Reid coaches Bjorn Hamberg and Kyle Macaulay, and his former captain and current coaching staff, Bruno Saltor and Ben Roberts, in goal.
Albion has put Andrew Crofts, the under-21 team's coach, in charge until a permanent replacement can be found. His team will consist of assistant coach Shannon Ruth, set-play coach Nick Stanley, and assistant goalkeeper coach Jack Stern.
Names on the short-list for the Brighton Manager role
Reports in South America claim that after losing Graham Potter to Chelsea, Brighton is eyeing River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo.
The 47-year-old Potter has been linked with various job opportunities over the past three years, the Seagulls have had a backup plan in place for his departure for over a year, and South American publications have indicated that Gallardo is among the contenders to replace him.
The Argentine's performance in his own country has been impressive throughout the years, garnering him plaudits from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
Before Xavi was hired, there was talk of Barcelona signing Gallardo, who has won 14 trophies with River Plate. However, Guardiola, who made his comments in 2019, thinks the 46-year-old deserves to be called one of the best in the industry.
After Graham Potter is appointed Chelsea manager on Thursday, other candidates include Kjetil Knutsen, Russell Martin, Nathan Jones, and Steve Cooper.
Kjetil Knutsen
Knutsen, a Norwegian football coach, has been in charge of FK Bod/Glimt since 2018, and in 2020, the club's record-setting season in which they lost only one game propelled them to their first domestic league title.
FK Bodø/Glimt retained the league title last year and are presently second in the table in this campaign, fighting against Arsenal in the group stage of the Europa League.
Russell Martin
Brighton-born Martin spent the first 15 years of his career developing as a player in the Albion academy.
He got his start in management with an 18-month stint at MK Dons, where his possession-based approach drew the attention of Swansea City.
After leading the Swans to a 15th-place finish in the Championship last season, Martin was offered and accepted a three-year contract as the club's head coach in August 2021.
Nathan Jones
After making 183 appearances for Brighton as a player and serving as an assistant manager under Ricardo Garca in 2013, current Luton Town manager Nathan Jones has been mentioned as a possible candidate to take over the club's managerial duties.
Jones has helped revitalise Luton since becoming manager in 2016, despite a dismal six-month stint in 2019 with Stoke City (and again in July 2019).
Steve Cooper
After leading England's U17 team to a World Cup victory in 2017, Steve Cooper became a household name among football coaches everywhere.
His promotion of Nottingham Forest to the Premier League after a 23-year absence is his crowning achievement.
