Football Transfer News: Leicester is set to complete their first signing before the September Window shuts
Leicester City is making their first summer signing, but the addition will be backup goalkeeper Alex Smithies. Eldin Jakupovic is the only player to depart, but captain Kasper Schmeichel left just before the season started
He was the number one goalkeeper, and the team did not have a replacement ready. He left for OGC Nice, and Hamza Choudhury is off the wages for a year. Choudhury might not be given a two-year contract extension, so his future is now uncertain.
If Nampalys Mendy leaves in 2023, Choudhury might get a chance to shine. Now, former player of Cardiff City, Alex Smithies, is joining the East Midlands side and the transfer is reported to be free.
The 32-year-old has also represented Huddersfield Town and will likely be behind Daniel Iversen in the pecking order. Danny Ward is Brendan Rodgers' most prefered keeper at present.
Manchester City to welcome Sergio Gomez
Manchester City will sign left-back Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht on an £ 11 million (€13m) deal. He will be a development player for the Citizens, and they might loan him out to one of the other City Group clubs.
Gomez is to be included in Pep Guardiola's first-team squad this season, which is a surprise because City was more fixated upon hiring alternative first-team targets.
He will join the club after undergoing a medical in the next few hours. The 21-year-old spent the previous campaign under the management of former City captain Vincent Kompany.
Gomez scored 22 goals for the club that finished third last season. Pep Guardiola confirmed his addition to the squad, alongside Joao Cancelo and Josh Wilson-Esbrand for the left-backs.
Tottenham is reportedly one of four clubs interested in signing Barcelona forward Memphis Depay before the summer window shuts on September 1.
Sport claims the Catalan giants are prioritising the sale of the Netherlands international in the remaining weeks after strengthening their attack significantly with the arrival of Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.
Memphis Depay is trying his luck with Juventus as Spurs are also in line
Barcelona forward Memphis Depay appears to be on the move for Serie A and Juventus. Depay was unwilling to stay back at a crowded Barcelona front line, especially with Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha's arrival.
The transfer will aid Barcelona financially, as the club now has to minimise its stake to register new players. Meanwhile, Tottenham has also shown interest in the player, but Depay is sceptical of the project at Tottenham.
Other teams that targetted Depay, Everton and Chelsea were left far behind. However, Juventus' deal could invite complications.
