Football Transfer News: Barcelona to make Bernardo Silva decision after securing €100 million
After earning an additional €100 million in earnings during this transfer window, Barcelona might make a play for Bernardo Silva
Barcelona must first register the players they have already signed, such as Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde. Still, if they are successful in doing so, they may then make a move for David Silva of Manchester City later this month.
Frenkie de Jong would need to leave first, albeit City is also unwilling to sell, for any approach to be successful.
Joan Laporta, president of Barcelona, declined to rule out a last-minute approach for Bernardo Silva of Manchester City after stating the club had raised an additional 100 million euros through a new asset sale.
What did Xavi Hernandez say?
When Laporta inquired whether a bid was still feasible, Barcelona coach Xavi informed the team that he wanted the 27-year-old international from Portugal.
Xavi said, "First we have to register the players we have so far signed. And then we will see what can be done if the coach asks for more players."
"It's a long summer, market doesn't finish until August 31. We have to register the new signings and hopefully we can do that before August 13. Then we will see what happens. It could be that there is another signing," Xavi continued.
Regarding their allotted squad spending, Barcelona frequently communicates with La Liga. They anticipate a significant increase now that they have sold investment fund Sixth Street 25% of future TV rights for the next 25 years.
President Laporta stated, "We are doing all they ask of us. I imagine they [La Liga] will not block us. I hope La Liga interprets things in the same way as we have. If they don't then we will have to find a solution."
Laporta refers to Barcelona's asset sales as economic "levers," On Monday, he announced that a third lever was prepared to be pulled.
Speaking on the 'economic levers', Laporta mentioned, "We have sold 25 percent of TV rights and we have sold 25 percent of Barça Studios to socios.com for 100m euros. We are doing what we can to be able to register players."
Barcelona is under pressure from the Spanish league to sell players, lower its pay, or boost revenue. And they have moved to asset sales due to their difficulties in leading players with lengthy contracts.
The business Socios.com created the fans tokens app, which allows users to purchase tokens using cryptocurrency and then use those tokens to vote on some club decisions.
Only if Barcelona is successful in ousting Frenkie de Jong will their chase of Silva intensify.
Former Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu gave De Jong a huge contract; he will make up to 25 million euros the following season and 20 million net this season.
Barcelona will do that if they can sell him for the £70 million, they paid in 2019 and add Silva. The midfielder for Manchester City may end up costing as much as De Jong did for Barcelona, but he will only make a small portion of what De Jong is expected to make.
De Jong continues to insist that he wants to stay, and Barcelona is currently in discussions with La Liga to determine whether they need to sell him to sign players or whether the three economic levers that have been activated thus far have sufficiently changed their total squad spend allowance to allow them to sign new players.
