Football News: Premier League - Manchester City juggernaut halted by Newcastle
The thrilling Premier League match between Manchester City and Newcastle at St. James' Park on August 21 ended with a 3-3 draw
Manchester City roared back from 3-1 down to salvage the action-packed encounter with the help of Erling Haaland's predatory instincts.
Within the regulation time, İlkay Gündoğan in the fifth minute, Erling Haaland in the 60th minute and Bernardo Silva in the 64th minute were the goalscorers for Manchester City.
In contrast, Miguel Almirón scored for Newcastle United in the 28th minute, Callum Wilson in the 39th minute, and Kieran Trippier in the 54th minute.
İlkay Gündoğan opened the scoring for Manchester City with a shot past Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope just five minutes into the match after receiving a well-placed cross from Bernardo Silva.
However, Newcastle soon took control of the match despite the early opener from Manchester City. They launched back-to-back attacks to build pressure on the Manchester City defence and finally got a breakthrough in the 28th minute.
Miguel Almirón equalized the score after Allan Saint-Maximin charged through the left flank and sent a cross into the penalty box. Callum Wilson added another as he edged past Rúben Dias and lifted it into the net past City goalkeeper Ederson. The first half ended with a 2-1 lead for Newcastle.
The Magpies continued their attacking momentum in the second half as Kieran Trippier slotted the ball into the net from a freekick to make it 3-1.
Erling Haaland saw an opportunity and sparked the reversal with a volley into the net. Just three minutes later, Bernardo Silva levelled the score with a quick shot with the help of a through ball from Kevin De Bruyne.
Both sides spent the final moments of the game hunting for the winning goal, but the match ended with a 3-3 draw as the final whistle rang. Erling Haaland scored his third goal for Manchester City to help them avoid the loss by upping his game at the right moment.
After the draw, Manchester City moved to the second spot on the Premier League table with seven points, two points behind the chart leaders Arsenal.
Newcastle pushed Manchester City to the brink of loss with the help of their new signings, Nick Pope, Matt Targett and Sven Botman, showing that they are now a force that can't be taken lightly.
Manchester City will next face Barcelona in a club friendly at Spotify Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain, on August 25.
