Football News: Nottingham Forest bids for Watford forward Emmanuel Dennis
Nottingham Forest has made an initial approach for Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis. The specific form of the proposed transfer is unknown, but the overall sum, including add-ons, is thought to be around £20 million ($24.4 million)
Last month, it was reported that Forest and West Ham United were interested in signing the 24-year-old, who scored ten goals and had six assists for Watford in the Premier League last season. West Ham's interest in the player is thought to have waned.
Watford has been willing to sell at the right price since relegation was confirmed.
Dennis expects to depart this window, but he has played against Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion as part of his professional development with the club he joined from Club Bruges in 2021.
Watford owner Gino Pozzo was determined to get the best price for the player, and Forest appears to be on track to fulfilling the club's valuation.
Other Premier League clubs have been connected with the Nigerian star, but Nottingham Forest has recently made an effort to sign him.
West Ham United dropped their pursuit of the striker due to manager David Moyes, and ties to Aston Villa have been downplayed.
Last season, during Watford's relegation season, the forward shined in the Premier League, scoring ten goals in 33 games.
The Hornets hope to make a significant profit on the 24-year-old after signing him from Club Brugge for under £3 million in 2021.
Club Bruges will earn a 5% sell-on fee, but Watford will still make a significant profit on a player they paid £3 million.
Forest head coach Steve Cooper has supervised an extensive summer rebuild in preparation for promotion to the Premier League, making 12 additions.
On the other hand, Cooper wants to bolster his forward line, and the plan, if the trade goes through, is to pair Dennis with fellow Nigerian Taiwo Awoniyi, who signed from Union Berlin.
Cooper's team was defeated 2-0 at Newcastle United on Saturday, and they face West Ham at the City Ground this weekend.
Dennis scored ten goals and assisted six times in the Premier League last season, and Nottingham Forest will be hoping he can replicate that form this season.
Nottingham Forest to sign another rising star as Emmanuel Dennis deal proceeds
Forest is claimed to have "reached" a financial deal with the 27-year-old, while his club expects an offer from the Reds as interest in the striker grows.
Simon scored six goals in 30 Ligue 1 games for Nantes, bringing his total to 17 in three seasons. He does, however, have Champions League and Europa League experience through previous clubs Gent and Trenn.
The same agency also handles Simon as Emmanuel Dennis, another Forest target reported to be close to a move to the City Ground.
The French outlet Foot Mercato first reported Forest's interest in Simon.
Dennis, a fellow countryman, is expected to join Forest from Championship side Watford this summer.
The Reds have also secured a "complete deal" with Atalanta midfielder Remo Freuler.
