Football News: Mother of the Everton fan whose cell phone Cristiano Ronaldo smashed appeals to the FA
The mother of an autistic Everton fan whose phone was broken by Manchester United's superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has asked the FA to punish Ronaldo
Ronaldo displayed explosive conduct in April, following Manchester United's 1-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park. The mother also inquired about the football player's nighttime rest following the incident.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner, who battled with fans following an April Premier League match at Goodison Park, was charged after a video showed him slapping a phone out of the hands of a 14-year-old boy.
14 years old Jacob, an autistic Everton fan, attempted to capture Ronaldo as the Manchester United star walked down the tunnel following his team's loss.
However, to Jacob's surprise, the Portuguese forward smashed the phone from his hands, leaving him with a shattered phone and an injured hand.
The adolescent ended up with a damaged phone and an injured hand; his mother, 37 years old, Sarah Kelly, has requested that the governing body penalise the Portuguese forward suitably.
Following the FA's announcement that Ronaldo would be charged for his part in the exchange, the fan's mother, Sarah Kelly, requested that the footballer not be allowed to "get away with it" and asked them to give him the "right punishment".
Kelly said, "His behaviour is unacceptable. I'm being hounded by people saying I'm dragging it up again but I didn't know anything about it. He should have been dealt with six months ago. My son talks about what happened to him every day. He still hasn't had his phone back."
The Football Association charged the Manchester United star earlier this week after CCTV showed Ronaldo knocking the phone out of the fan's grasp.
Because Merseyside Police paid for the phone's repair, she noted that Ronaldo should have covered the cost, as he was the one who caused the damage. She then said that she was perplexed by Ronaldo's ability to assault a child and carry on as usual.
She asked at the end, "How can he sleep at night knowing the distress he has caused to a young fan?"
Cristiano Ronaldo offered to meet the family
Ronaldo apologised on social media and asked the child to see a game with him at Old Trafford. Furthermore, he volunteered to meet the family.
When asked about Ronaldo's offer to see the little fan and his family at Old Trafford, Kelly affirmed that no plans had been made. She noted that Ronaldo apologised and did not do anything apart from that, which insulted the family
According to her, "He offered us to meet him, and said he was sorry but said he had done nothing wrong. That's not an apology, that's an insult."
Following the FA's charge, Manchester United has indicated that they will continue to support Ronaldo.
The Portugal international has struggled for playing time at United during the 2022-23 season. The Portuguese forward has scored just one goal this season, which came in the Europa League, but has yet to score in the Premier League.
And his inability to leave Old Trafford during the summer transfer window will keep him there until at least January.
