Ozil left Arsenal on a free transfer in January 2021 and signed a contract with Fenerbahce that would last until 2024.

The former Arsenal player will continue his career in the Super Lig despite the cancellation of his contract at Fenerbahce.

However, German Ozil hasn't played for his old team since he was "excluded" from it in March.

Although his contract was cancelled, it's thought that Fenerbahce will continue to pay him through 2025, and his signing with his new club will take place tomorrow.

Basaksehir, which finished fourth last year, eight points behind Fenerbahce in second place, tweeted about Ozil's impending visit.

After falling down the pecking order under Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, Ozil went to Fenerbahce in January 2021.

Before his move to Basaksehir was made public, he signed a three-and-a-half-year deal, but his exit after 18 months was revealed on Wednesday.

In an official statement, Fenerbahce said: "It has been agreed that the contract between our club and Mesut Ozil will be terminated by mutual agreement. We wish Mesut Ozil success for the rest of his career."

During his 36 appearances for Fenerbahce, Ozil scored nine goals and assisted three others.

"One of the things that makes life is that it is full of uncertainties," Ozil posted on his social media handles.

"Our plans, desires and wishes may not always go in the direction you want them to. I wanted to achieve success by getting more chances to play in the Fenerbahce jersey, which has always been my childhood dream."

"I would like to thank the Fenerbahce community and fans for the great support they have shown me."

Ozil left Arsenal and signed a contract with the Turkish giants in January 2021; it was set to expire in the summer of 2024.

After joining Fenerbahce as a free agent in January 2021 after Arsenal terminated his contract early, Ozil made 37 appearances for a season and a half, scoring nine goals.

He was unable to live up to expectations at the club, and as a result of a falling out with Kartal, he was later dropped from the squad.

Early in June, Fenerbahce replaced interim manager Ismail Kartal with Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus, who in his first press conference as a team member mentioned "the end of the Ozil era."

The 33-year-old Germany international was swiftly pegged as the favourite to sign with Basaksehir, who also stated that they have a contract for him.

Despite injury problems and disagreements with his managers throughout his career, the midfielder appears ready for a new career phase.

He got transferred from Real Madrid to Arsenal in 2013 and played in 184 Premier League games. In 2014, Germany won the World Cup, thanks partly to Ozil.
