"The club would like to thank Mauricio Pochettino and his staff for their work and wish them the best for the future," Paris Saint-Germain issued a statement.

PSG's Champions League loss to Real Madrid in the last 16 rounds was one of the reasons that Pochettino lost his job.

Pochettino's men blew a two-goal aggregate lead in the second leg, allowing eventual victors Real Madrid to advance.

The Argentine has been stripped of his duties at Parc des Princes after a year and a half in charge.

Mauricio Pochettino delivered a farewell message to Paris Saint-Germain fans on social media after his term as manager ended on Tuesday, putting an end to weeks of uncertainty over his future.

What are Mauricio Pochettino's message to Paris Saint-Germain and its fans?

Mauricio Pochettino sent an emotional message to the Club supremo and fans. He wrote, "I want to wish everyone at PSG the very best for the future – the owners, the board, the players, all the staff and the supporters,"

"To Nasser - I want to say thank you for giving me the opportunity to be part of the PSG family again. We enjoyed some amazing moments and big wins all together, and, as a coaching staff, with every experience, we always take learnings to advance our evolution for the future."

"We are proud to finish as league champions at a club that has meant so much to me and my family, from my time here as a player and a captain and now as a coach."

The Argentine has been relieved of his duties at Parc des Princes, and former Lille and Nice manager Christophe Galtier has taken over as the Ligue 1 giants prepared to reignite their push for glory after domestic success last season.

After losing the club's grip on the French top division during his first half-season in command, Pochettino led them back to domestic triumph this season, albeit he was less successful in the Champions League.

His departure will herald the arrival of Galtier, who previously worked at Lille with Luis Campos, PSG's newly appointed football advisor.

The 55-year-old will join PSG barely a year after leading Lille to the French championship in 2020-21.

Galtier managed Nice for 43 games, taking the club to fifth place in Ligue 1 last season.

Last week, Lucien Favre returned to the Allianz Riviera as Galtier's replacement.

This summer, club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi initiated a significant evaluation, which resulted in the departure of both Pochettino and sporting director Leonardo.

Galtier and Campos are likely to decide who leaves the club during the summer transfer window.

Mauro Icardi, Idrissa Gueye, Danilo Pereira, Keylor Navas, and Julian Draxler are among those who could depart PSG as part of a big team overhaul.

The team has won eight French crowns but has yet to win the Champions League.

What will be next for Mauricio Pochettino?

The Argentine's subsequent actions are unknown, though he is sure to receive bids for his services.

Pochettino, who previously led Tottenham to the Champions League final, will now be able to add silverware to his record thanks to his stint at Paris Saint-Germain.

He had previously been linked with a return to Tottenham Hotspur or a move to Manchester United in the past year. Still, with Antonio Conte established in north London and Erik ten Hag in place at Old Trafford, neither move is expected to happen anytime soon.
