Football News: Manchester United and Barcelona agree on Frenkie de Jong
A deal has been concluded between FC Barcelona and Manchester United for the transfer of Frenkie de Jong. Following Manchester United's CEO Richard Arnold and director of football John Murtough in Barcelona on Monday, this assertion has been made by the Onze show on Catalonia's Esport3.
Later on Friday afternoon, the two met with representatives from Barcelona, Mateu Alemany, Jordi Cruyff, and Rafa Yuste. Their meeting resulted in an agreement between the two European powerhouses for the 25-year-old midfielder.
Oriol Domenech from Esport3 claims that the total price of the deal, including add-ons, is €85 million ($85.05 million).
Although Barcelona will not receive the total $100 million ($100.08 million), they sought for De Jong, a sale for the amount that has already been quoted still represents a return on the midfielder's three-year purchase price, which they paid after beating out Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City for his services.
However, even if Manchester United and Barcelona have reached a deal, both parties still need to convince De Jong to agree to personal terms with his probable new team.
De Jong has made it clear that he doesn't want to leave Catalonia in public or private, but there are rumours that he has grown frustrated with his cash-strapped present employers' openness to discuss his departure.
De Jong would have to take a significant pay reduction to assist Camp Nou balance the books, which is something that neither the player nor his agent is considering.
Barcelona might concentrate on other acquisitions like Raphinha from Leeds United and Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich if De Jong were to be sold.
