Football News: Lionel Messi to decide his club future in 2023
Lionel Messi will determine whether his stint at Paris Saint Germain will continue till 2023. It is rumoured that Argentina forward could go back to
Barcelona
Messi has been in the Paris-based side for two seasons after taking a leave from his career-long Spanish side in 2021 due to financial issues that plagued Barcelona.
Messi's contract in Paris will expire next summer, implying he could take a free transfer to the La Liga side. They are in a gradual process of easing their money-related problems under new leadership and management.
Barca's vice president, Eduard Romeu, fuelled hope in their fans: "It would be possible financially because if he returned, it would be as a free agent."
Argentinian journalist Veronica Brunati's tweet about Messi's potential return to Barcelona has also affected fans in Catalunya, but others think it's too early to derive conclusions.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano shared, "Sources close to Lionel Messi insist he will decide his future in 2023, not now." Understandably, PSG will try to extend his contract.
Messi's debut season with PSG brought in 11 goals and 14 assists across all competitions, which is his lowest aggregate since 2006-07. However, he has netted seven goals and eight assists in 12 games this year.
