Football News: ISL Transfer - Kerala Blasters FC's foreign contingent for the 2022-23 season
Indian Super League (ISL) team Kerala Blasters FC regained their form in the previous edition of the league. The team's head coach Ivan Vukomanovic rebuilt the club that enraptured the crowd with its performance
After a successful season, the Yellow Tuskers are now trying to fix their shortcomings from last season by making new signings. Their brilliant performance has now set high standards that the squad must meet.
With this, we will check out the foreign contingent of Kerala Blasters FC ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
Marko Leskovic
The Kerala Blasters FC backline last season was supported by this Croatian centre-back alongside Ruivah Hormipam. The pair made a good team and resisted strong attacks on most occasions.
The defender pulled off an impressive performance against Mumbai City FC, Chennaiyin FC and Jamshedpur FC, where he tackled their forwards.
Leskovic's gameplay complemented Vukomanovic's style, with the defender picking out his squad members during attacks to send the ball forward.
Victor Mongil
The Spaniard has competed for the title-winning ATK Mohun Bagan and was a key player at Odisha FC in ISL 2021-22. The centre-back will ensure solid defence as well as a formidable attack.
He registered 32.5 passes per game, achieving an 81% success rate. He was also a defensive pillar for Odisha, with three clean sheets to his name and 1.2 interceptions per game.
Adrian Luna
The Uruguayan international is known for his stamina and long-distance kicks. He partnered with Sahal Abdul Samad and two former teammates, Alvaro Vasquez and Jorge Diaz, to shake up their opponent's defence.
His ability to put pressure on his opponents allowed Kerala Blasters FC's defence more buffer time besides inspiring the frontline to take possession.
Apostolos Giannou
The Greek-Australian forward's off-the-ball awareness will be necessary for Vukomanovic's side. The 32-year-old forward press his opponents much like his teammate Adrian Luna.
Even inside the box, Giannou can knock down opposing defences, and he is reputably a good shooter from close range. Kerala Blasters FC can practice deliveries into the box so that the forward can alleviate his ongoing problem of not being able to score.
Ivan Kaliuzhnyi
Ukrainian midfielder Ivan Kaliuzhnyi has entered Kerala Blasters FC on loan for the upcoming season. Kaliuzhnyi is a versatile midfielder who can use his attacking style to strengthen his team.
The midfielder will ensure stability for Kerala Blasters FC, which was missing last season. The two central midfielder-system exhibited was defensive, which was not an efficient goal-scoring strategy.
Kaliuzhnyi has long-range shooting abilities, which could help his team score.
