Football News: ISL 2022-23 - Thiago Santos to be Neroca FC's new addition
Neroca FC will sign former Mumbai City FC player Thiago Santos on a one-year deal with an optional extension clause, and the announcement is to be made soon
Thiago Santos kickstarted his football career with Duque de Caxias. He took a transfer to Flamengo the following season. It is one of the most popular clubs in Brazil.
Over his three-year stint with the club, he played five matches for his club. In the 2017-18 season, he shifted to Indian Super League (ISL) team Mumbai City FC where he played 13 games and scored five goals.
In 2019, he went to Chapecoense and became an integral part of the squad. Playing for Flamengo, he secured the Campeonato Carioca (Brazillian Rio State Championship) in 2019.
Thiago operates as a left winger, apart from which he can play as an attacking midfielder. Neroca FC's I-League season amounted to 20 points scored over 18 games.
Due to solid performances from Juan Mera and Sergio Mendigutxia, they had a strong start to their campaign, but Mera's unexpected injury pulled them down later.
The club are looking for a replacement striker and also an experienced goalkeeper. Sardor Jakhonov, an Uzbek offensive midfielder from RUFC, has signed up to the club, and his long-range goals could boost their game.
In addition, they have signed David Simbo, who will be a solid addition to the club's defence. They have welcomed well-known national strategist Khogen Singh, who has also won the I-League with Minerva.
Peter Hartley extends the contract with Jamshedpur FC
Jamshedpur FC is to retain the centre-back and club captain Peter Hartley for another year. The Englishman's rock-solid defence has popularised him among fans.
He has inspired the club as a leader and scored three goals during the campaign. After signing the contract, Hartley disclosed their target of defending the Champions of India title.
He is happy to call it my home for the future, a club that is replete with "amazing people" both on and off the field. Hartley's football career took off at Sunderland AFC Academy, and the left-footed centre-back was roped into the youth system if he was a 12-year-old.
After he rose through the ranks, the Englishman played for Stevenage, Plymouth Argyle, Bristol Rovers, and Blackpool before joining Motherwell FC. He has played in England tournaments such as the FA Cup and the League Cup.
Hartley is further excited to have joined the club along with gaffer Aidy Boothroyd, who held talks with the player throughout the off-season. He is believed to be a great coach who has helped several English players to grow and hone their skills.
On the other hand, Aidy was elated to see Peter in the club again. Hartley is responsible for the club's clean sheets. The master of defence had a great partnership with Eli Sabia.
