Football News: Indian Super League - Transfer update, Jamshedpur FC signs Pratik Chaudhari
Indian Super League (ISL) outfit Jamshedpur FC signed former Bengaluru FC defender Pratik Chaudhari on Saturday. It marks the defender's return to the league after three seasons
The Mumbai-born star started his football career with Bank of India and then Union Bank of India. Shortly after, he joined the I-League side Air India in 2011 and then made his ISL debut for Kerala Blasters FC while playing for Mumbai FC.
He then switched to the Delhi Dynamos in the 2017-18 season, which preceded his memorable chapter with the Men of Steel. Chaudhari'sChaudhari's excitement was evident in a statement he made after finalising his transfer.
"This was an obvious choice for me," said Chaudhari about his return. He believes that the city of Jamshedpur has a "huge legacy of football with the boisterous Red Miners supporting the team through thick and thin."
The 32-year-old center-back has registered 76 appearances in the ISL and was instrumental in the Red Miners'Miners' fifth-place finish in the 2018-19 season. He switched to Mumbai City FC in 2019-20 and then moved to Bengaluru FC in 2020.
Newly appointed Jamshedpur FC head coach Aidy Boothroyd is delighted to have an experienced center-back in his team. He considers the player "one of the best Indian defenders with a strong physical presence" who could bring more stability to the squad.
Pratik Chaudhari will be adorned in the number 24 jersey and will join the Red Miners in August for the preseason.
NorthEast United brought in Emil Benny on a multi-year deal
Emil Benny is confirmed to be signing NorthEast United FC for a three-year deal. Emil Benny'sBenny's contract will Gokulam Kerala has a year left till expiry.
According to sources, NorthEast United also handed over a transfer fee. Benny, among other players, had led Gokulam Kerala to victory in the last season of the I-League. His performance in the AFC Cup had also turned heads.
Emil Benny is a product of the MSP Football Academy and has played for the Kerala Blasters youth setup. He switched to Gokulam Kerala'sKerala's reserve team from the Blasters in 2019.
The 21-year-old became part of the Malabarians'Malabarians' main team in 2020. Benny competed in 18 matches for the team in the 2021/22 edition of the I-League. He netted once and provided two assists.
He participated in all three group stage games in his AFC Cup debut a few months back. Ultimately, he played against ATK Mohun Bagan, Basundhara Kings, and Maziya Sports & Recreation Club.
With the departure of their head coach Khalid Jamil, it is to be seen how the players fares under a new coach, yet to be picked.
