Football News Indian Super League: Foreign signings for the 2022-23 season
Ahead of the Indian Super League, the transfer window is now open, resulting in many new foreign players joining the league. This is the ninth season and has gained significant popularity among foreign players.
This season has witnessed many new foreign transfers that may be very beneficial for the game and the clubs.
Brendan Hamill
When ATK Mohun Bagan's Spanish defender got injured and was supposed to be on rest for the entire season, they were in search of a new defender who could fill in for Tiri. Brendan Hamill is an Australian player who has previously played for Melbourne Victory centre back. He made 20 appearances for the club in total, where some of his efforts contributed to the club's win in the Australia Cup.
Just like Tiri used to do before, Hamil is also expected to be a playmaker and push forward and bring fullbacks and midfielders into the game. His international league experience and incredible prowess will likely help the club in many ways this season.
Osama Malik
Another Australian player to join the ISL this year is Osama Malik. He has joined Odissa FC, and he has prior experience in A-League. Osama is a versatile defender who can also act as a central defender or holding midfielder. Observing Malik's game closely shows that he has excellent stamina. He can cover both the defence and the attack simultaneously and then return to the defence to cover what he missed. Joseph Gombau, the current coach of Odisha FC, has played with Malik in 44 games; therefore, there's no doubt they would have good coordination. Malik may be a great addition to the club with Delgado in the back and Malik taking care of the central defence.
Vafa Hakhamaneshi
Vafa Hakhamaneshi has recently been recruited by Channaiyin FC Vafa has previously played with the Thai club, Ratchaburi Mitr Phol FC, where he played three games in the AFC Champions League. Vafa is one of the top-tier players in Iran and has played for many clubs in the top-tier league of Iran, the Persian Gulf Pro League.
He was extremely excited to join the club and said, "I feel proud to join the team to represent Chennai. I will fight with all my might for the pride of the city and the people."
Alvaro Vasquez
Alvaro, a Barcelona-born, first played in ISL for Kerala Blasters FC. His Swift movements and terrific talent make it hard for the opponent's defence to function correctly. After beginning his career with Espanyol's youth system's senior team and scoring ten goals in 60 games for them, Alvaro moved to Getafe. After a few Alvaro started playing for his first club again. He has also played for Spanish clubs like Sporting Gijon and CE Sabadell FC.
FC Goa needs a good forward to score well, which seemed lacking in the last season. With Alvaro joining the club, that problem is likely to go away.
