Rajasthan United FC defeated ATK Mohun Bagan 3-2 in a Group B clash of the 2022 Durand Cup at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on August 20
Juan Ferrando's ATK Mohun Bagan started their second consecutive tournament with a defeat in the opening match. They began on a dominant note, but Rajasthan United FC roared back from behind to clinch one of their most memorable wins since their foundation in 2018.
Within the regulation time, Bektur Amangeldiev in the 45th minute, Remsanga in the 61st minute and Gyamar Nikum in the fifth minute of extended time scored for Rajasthan United FC.
In contrast, Kiyan Nassiri in the 43rd minute and Ashique Kuruniyan in the 46th minute scored for ATK Mohun Bagan.
Florentin Pogba slotted the ball into the net after receiving the ball from Liston Colaco in the third minute, but the goal was ruled off-side. ATK Mohun Bagan kept on building pressure as Liston Colaco got close to scoring but failed to find the back of the net.
ATK Mohun Bagan finally got a breakthrough in the 43rd minute when Kiyan Nassiri fired the ball into the net, following a quick pass on the left flank from Ashique Kurunian.
Two minutes later, Bektur Amangeldiev equalized the score for Rajasthan United FC after a well-placed pass from William Neihsial. The first half ended with both sides tied 1-1.
ATK Mohun Bagan returned to the field aggressively, and Ashique Kuruniyan fired the ball into the net after receiving a free kick from Hugo to make it 2-1 seconds into the second half.
ATK Mohun Bagan tried to build more pressure on the Rajasthan United FC to force them into making mistakes. However, Rajasthan United FC launched a counter-attack and Lalremsanga headed sent the ball into the net to level the scores again.
Both sides launched back-to-back attacks in the ending moments of the match to find the winning goal. Gyamar Nikum took control of the ball from Mohun Bagan midfielder Carl McHugh and tapped it home to secure the victory for Rajasthan United FC.
