Jamshedpur FC won against Indian Air Force FT 2-1 with the help of a late goal from Lalruatmawia at Kishore Bharati Stadium in Kolkata, West Bengal, on September 1
The campaign of Jamshedpur FC at the 131st edition of the Durand Cup came to an end on a high note.
Within the regulation time, Piyush Tahkuri in the 26th minute and Lalruatmawia in the 84th minute were the goalscorers for Jamshedpur FC. In contrast, Somananda N, in the 39th minute, was the lone goalscorer for Indian Air Force.
Jamshedpur FC played aggressively and eagerly launched well-organized attacks in the match's early stages. The forward line of the Indian Air Force also created several fantastic opportunities but struggled with converting.
Jamshedpur FC opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Piyush Tahkuri slotted the ball into the net after receiving an excellent through ball from Lalruatmawia.
Piyush Tahkuri almost doubled the lead a few minutes later but failed to convert despite IAFFT keeper Dinesh being out of line.
Indian Air Force began building pressure on the defensive line of Jamshedpur FC and launched two good attacks as they hunted for an equalizer.
They finally got a breakthrough in the 39th minute when Somananda N brought parity to the score with a powerful long-distance right foot strike into the bottom right corner of the goal.
Jamshedpur FC launched a counter-attack to regain their lead just before the end of the first half. Still, Vinil Poojari missed the golden opportunity when his close ranged header went directly to the goalkeeper.
Both sides worked hard but failed to emerge dominant over the other in the second half. Indian Air Force had more shots on target, while Jamshedpur FC had higher possession.
Lalruatmawia charged past two defenders and volleyed the ball into the net to seal the victory for Jamshedpur FC after receiving a well-placed cross from Tapan Halder.
Jamshedpur FC finished third on the Group A chart with six points from four matches, while Indian Air Force finished at the bottom with zero wins from four games.
