Football News: Cristiano Ronaldo to miss the first day of Manchester United training due to 'family reasons'
According to reports, Cristiano Ronaldo will not practice with Manchester United on Monday after the club permitted him to delay his return due to "family circumstances."
Manchester United's international players report to Carrington to begin their preseason routine. They have been granted an extra week off by manager Erik ten Hag after participating in games for their respective countries in June.
Ronaldo, on the other hand, has been given a lengthy rest. On Friday, the team will depart for their preseason tour of Thailand and Australia.
The news comes following rumours that the 37-year-old told Old Trafford officials that he wants to quit the club this summer.
Ronaldo, who scored 24 goals last season, wants to leave United after becoming dissatisfied with the club's lack of ambition in the summer transfer window and determining that they cannot win the Premier League. The 37-year-old aspires to participate in the Champions League as well.
Ronaldo and the other players who participated in international matches after the Premier League season are scheduled to return on Monday.
The remainder of the team returned to practice at the beginning of last week. Ronaldo's contract expires in a year, and Manchester United claims he is not for sale.
Does Cristiano Ronaldo want to leave Manchester United?
Ronaldo has told Manchester United that he will accept any realistic offer, with the 37-year-old determined to join a Champions League club.
He is disheartened by Manchester United's collapse and feels he must leave to continue competing for the highest awards.
The former Real Madrid and Juventus striker have stated that he does not believe they will be able to mount a credible title challenge this season, and he is also concerned about their potential to finish in the top four.
Ronaldo is nearing the end of his career and is adamant about continuing to play at the most significant game level, notably in the Champions League.
Even the appointment of Ten Hag has not convinced him that Manchester United can soon turn their fortunes around after suffering their worst-ever Premier League season last season.
Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, is claimed to have already contacted possible bidders, including Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
Given the call for Manchester United to accept a proposal, sources believe Mendes already has a suitor lined up.
Ralf Rangnick was in favour of selling Cristiano Ronaldo in January
Manchester United reportedly explored selling Cristiano Ronaldo in January, but the deal never happened, and now he wants to leave the club.
Manchester United will depart on Friday for a preseason tour of Thailand and Australia.
Manchester United debated selling Ronaldo during the January transfer window. Interim manager Ralf Rangnick urged football director John Murtough and CEO Richard Arnold that Ronaldo be moved on and replaced during the window. There were supposedly several emails and texts about this subject.
At the outset of the year, there were reports that Ronaldo would contemplate his future if Manchester United failed to qualify for the Champions League, and several players in the squad felt the same way. And Rangnick decided to act.
After hearing reports that Ronaldo's future at the club was in doubt beyond the season's conclusion, he decided it was better to act sooner rather than later.
Furthermore, the German does not consider Ronaldo, 37, a long-term contributor to Manchester United's success.
Rangnick believed it was better to get a player who could adapt to his high-pressing style of play, and as a result, the squad would perform better.
However, the club officials had no intention of selling their most valuable asset.
