Given how difficult and costly a transfer would be, it appears De Jong will remain in Barcelona. The question now is whether he will agree to a pay cut.

Barcelona has made it evident that they want to transfer De Jong, and they are close to reaching an agreement with Manchester United. The Premier League side, however, disagreed on terms with the midfielder.

Bayern Munich wants Frenkie De Jong on loan

The midfielder's most recent possibility is a loan to Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga winners are considering providing Barcelona with a similar agreement to the one that saw Philippe Coutinho join the club from the Nou Camp three years ago for one season.

However, luring the Dutch midfielder away from Barcelona is proving difficult. He will only depart if he is paid the £14 million deferred pay owed. The 25-year-old has been at the Catalan giants since 2019 and has made 142 appearances.

The Netherlands international's opinion may alter in the last days of the transfer window, particularly if a team of Bayern Munich's reputation approaches him.

De Jong has had two offers from Manchester United and Chelsea on the table for some time. So far, he has refused to consent to a transfer to either club, although Barcelona wishes to sell him if he does not cut his wage.

Although the purchase of Casemiro from Real Madrid for €72 million plus 13 in variables was completed on Friday, Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag and the club's owners have decided to launch a new offensive for de Jong.

The triumph over Liverpool has not deterred the Dutch coach, who sees De Jong as a vital ingredient in revitalising the team and qualifying for the Europa League.

According to local media, the latest meeting with the former Ajax coach resulted in the decision to make two more acquisitions, one in midfield and one up front, to improve the squad's quality.

If De Jong joins the German champion, Barcelona will make another attempt to sign Bernardo Silva, the player Xavi wants to strengthen the midfield.

The issue is that City has valued him at about €100 million, despite Pep Guardiola's vow to let him go if a reasonable bid comes in.

This summer, Bayern improved their midfield by signing Ryan Gravenberch from Ajax. Marcel Sabitzer's return to form has also aided Julian Nagelsmann's side, but Leon Goretzka's fitness issues may necessitate the arrival of another midfielder.

Bayern Munich had previously signed Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona for the 2019/20 season, during which they won the Champions League.

They did not, however, exercise their option to contract him permanently.

However, De Jong's case may be different, given that the Bundesliga winners have long been fans of the 25-year-old.

There could be significant changes at Camp Nou within a week until the window closes.
