Football News: Bayern Munich chief denies holding talks with Harry Kane
Hasan Salihamidzic, director of football operations for Bayern Munich, reiterated that the club had no contact with Tottenham over the transfer of striker Harry Kane
The England captain's future in his current neighbourhood of north London was the topic of rumours.
Kane, whose contract year was coming to a close, was said to be on his way to the Allianz Arena after Robert Lewandowski expressed interest in leaving for Barcelona.
The Bundesliga team reportedly wanted Kane to play out the final year of his contract so they could sign him in 2023, but the club has rejected this idea.
Salihamidzic has gone even further, emphasising that he and Kane have never even discussed a transfer this summer or next.
"I haven't spoken to anyone in Harry Kane's camp. We have faith in our players. Serge [Gnabry], Sadio [Mane], [Eric Maxim] Choupo-Moting and also [Mathys] Tel," Salihamidzic said in an interview.
"These are guys who should grow into it. We have eight players for four positions. In the end you have to see what the market has to offer and we didn't find anyone is better than what was already in our squad," he continued.
Why are there rumours of Harry Kane looking for a change?
It's no secret that Kane has been frustrated in the past by the Spurs' inability to compete for trophies.
The England striker wanted to leave Spurs for Manchester City last summer but ended up staying under new coach Antonio Conte.
Kane thinks Conte has done an excellent job influencing the club's recruitment efforts.
Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Destiny Udogie, Djed Spence, Ivan Perisic, and Fraser Forster all came in for large sums of money this summer. At the same time, Clement Lenglet arrived on loan, and roughly £45 million was paid to make Cristian Romero's temporary stay permanent.
Though he still has two years left on his current contract, Kane is reportedly interested in extending his stay at Tottenham.
The Tottenham forward is in the final year of his contract with the north London club. Bayern Munich has discussed it as a potential long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who moved to Barcelona this summer.
Although Standard Sport has heard that Kane is willing to talk about a new contract with Spurs, there will probably be interest in him until a new contract is agreed upon.
Manchester City almost signed the England captain in 2021, but with Antonio Conte at the helm and a return to the Champions League, Spurs now have a better chance of holding on to him.
In the summer of 2018, just over a year after he made public attempts to quit the club, Tottenham went on a massive signing spree to bolster Antonio Conte's team for their European and domestic campaigns.
Kane is rumoured to be enthusiastic about their development and open to discussing the possibility of extending his stay in north London.
