Football Durand Cup 2022: Bengaluru FC thrash Indian Air Force 4-0
Bengaluru FC defeated Indian Air Force 4-0 in a Group A clash of the 2022 Durand Cup at the Kishore Bharati Stadium in Kolkata on August 23
Within the regulation time, Roy Krishna in the 8th minute, Sunil Chhetri in the 23rd minute, Faisal Ali in the 71st minute and Sivasakthi Narayanan in the second minute of extended time scored for Bengaluru FC. At the same time, none of the players from the Indian Air Force was able to achieve this.
Former Indian Super League champion Bengaluru FC made excellent use of their new attacking combination of Roy Krishna and Sunil Chetri to cruise past Indian Air Force in the 131st edition of the Durand Cup.
The Krishna-Chhetri pairing had also scored one goal each in the 2-1 victory of Bengaluru FC over Jamshedpur FC in the opening match.
Roy Krishna gave Bengaluru FC a 1-0 lead over Indian Air Force nine minutes into the game after a fantastic solo run. Suni Chetri doubled the lead with a volley into the Indian Air Force goal after receiving a well-placed long cross from Prabir Das.
Indian Air Force worked hard but failed to offer match trouble to Bengaluru FC. Faisal Ali further increased the lead for Bengaluru FC with the assistance of an excellent cross from substitute Udanta Singh.
Sivasakthi Narayanan added another in the stoppage time to give a finishing touch, sealing the victory for Bengaluru FC. Gurpreet Singh Sandhu made several excellent saves for Bengaluru FC to help them finish the match with a clean sheet.
After the victory, Bengaluru FC now stands at the top of the Group A chart alongside Mohammedan Sporting with six points each.
