Lionel Messi big day Lionel Messi big day

Although Argentina took the lead early on through a Lionel Messi penalty, they could not capitalize on their early dominance. They succumbed to two Saudi goals just after half-time. In light of this poor performance, it's evident that Argentina ran out of ideas against a disciplined Saudi side.

Group stage progression is something Mexico have been looking forward to for the 8th consecutive World Cup, but their game against Poland left a little to be desired in terms of inspiration. They could have easily lost if not for Guillermo Ochea's excellent reflexes in guessing which way Robert Lewandowski would kick his penalty, saving it cleanly. Against Argentina, the Mexicans would probably be content with the same scoreline, but anything less than a win means they'll have to beat Saudi Arabia in their last game.

The goalless draw between Mexico and Poland played right into Argentina's hands. Despite their loss to Saudi Arabia, they know that two wins against those two sides will see them progress and maybe even win the group. Argentina is a team that always bounces back, so Mexico might be the ones who suffer at the hands of Messi and Co's recovery.
