Everton defeats Leicester City to move out of the relegation zone
Bouncing back from consecutive victories over Chelsea and on Sunday against Leicester city at King Power Stadium, Everton moved out of the Premier League relegation zone
Everton won 2-1 against Leicester City with the help of Jordan Pickford's heroics, who made three extremely crucial saves to take his side to a 1-0 lead that proved to be detrimental in saving them from relegation.
Frank Lampard's side won their third game in five with a stunning volley from Vitaliy Mykolenko as Mason Holgate's header secured their victory. Now, they remain in control of their fate with four games remaining.
Leicester City has nothing to lose after their exit from the Europa Conference League, as even with an early equaliser, they couldn't beat Pickford in the second half.
Everton scores twice in the first half.
Alex Iwobi floated an excellent inviting cross from the right, and Vitaliy Mykolenko had enough time to score the ball past Kasper Schmeichel from just outside.
This was the first Everton goal from the Ukrainian fullback. It was also a moment of perfection that was quite out of tune with the standard of football that came after.
Everton could have extended their lead five minutes later, but Schmeichel prevented Abdoulaye Doucoure from scoring a shot that just squirmed over the goalline.
Thirty seconds later levelled Leicester City. Patson Daka capitalised on a mix-up between Yerry Mina and Seamus Coleman to lose Pickford from the inside.
Although it was a terrible goal to concede, Everton regained the lead at the half-hour mark as it again exposed Leicester city's vulnerability from set-pieces.
After Kasper Schmeichel saved Richarlison's first header from a corner, Mason Holgate's quick reaction restored the Toffees' lead after 30 minutes.
Forcibly led to chase another equaliser in the second half, Leicester City dominated for long periods but couldn't go past motivated Pickford in his best form.
In the absence of James Maddison, who is out with a hamstring injury, Leicester City lacked creativity and edge and is now winless in five league games.
The Toffees' goalkeeper denied Nampalys Mendy and Harvey Barnes to maintain the narrow advantage in the game after making one of the best saves of the season against Chelsea last Sunday.
Everton manager thanks fans for the support
Everton boss Frank Lampard claimed that the fans' support made a big difference in the club's fight to stay up and avoid being relegated from the Premier League.
Frank Lampard praised Everton's "amazing" supporters for their support in Sunday's decisive 2-1 victory against Leicester City.
Everton moved up one point to 16th after their victory. This is one point more than Burnley and Lees United, who lost 2-1 to Arsenal to fall to 18th.
The change in position came after Burnley's defeat by Aston Villa on Saturday and Leeds United's collapse against Arsenal.
Everton's first home win since August 28 was a huge success thanks to the 3,301 Everton supporters who were loud throughout the match.
