Everton defeats Chelsea 1-0
Everton won against Chelsea 1-0 in a Premier League match at Goodison Park. Richarlison was the only goal scorer.
It was a huge significant win for Everton, who are currently dealing with their relegation worries. They had just 22% possession but still defeated the current Champions League title holders. The final battle to escape the relegation zone will be a compelling struggle between Everton, Leeds United, and Burnley.
Frank Lampard said, "I think it is hard to say what is in our hands and that's because we can only control certain things - and that's when we play. Of the five games, we will have to control ourselves well enough to get enough points. My feeling is there is a long way to go."
Everton is currently at the 18th spot on the Premier League charts with 32 points in 33 games, while Leeds United and Burnley both have 34 points in 33 games each,
Richarlison was the sole goal scorer of the match, with one goal scored in the 46th minute. He sent the ball past Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy into the bottom right corner of the net after receiving a well-composed pass from English midfielder Demarai Gray. Even though Richarlison scored the winning goal, Jordan Pickford won the match for Everton.
After receiving no shots on target in the first half, Jordan Pickford did a brilliant job keeping Chelsea at bay in the second half. Some of his saves were extraordinary as he single-handedly won the match for Everton, including his superb denial of a shot by Cesar Azpilicueta.
After being awarded the man of the match, Jordan Pickford said, "It is what I am there for, and it is a team effort at the end of the day; it is all about getting three points. I enjoyed it, but that is what I am there to do, help the team. We cannot get too carried away, we have to keep fighting, and the fans have played a massive part.
