Europa League: Arsenal F.C. VS FK Bodo/Glimt: Eddie Nketiah, Rob Holding, and Fabio Vieira lead the Gunners to an easy win
Eddie Nketiah, Rob Holding, and Fabio Vieira scored to propel the Gunners to the top of their Europa League group with a 3-0 victory over Bodo/Glimt. Arsenal is now in first place in the group
With a Super Sunday matchup against Liverpool looming this weekend, Arsenal announced eight changes to the squad that defeated Tottenham 2-1 last weekend but raced to a comfortable first-half lead on the strength of goals from Nketiah and Holding.
With the victory, Arsenal went two points clear of Europa League Group A and extended their home winning streak to eight consecutive contests.
Arsenal F.C. never gave FK Bodo/Glimt a chance
Before halftime, the home team had a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal. After Kieran Tierney's attempt hit the post after 23 minutes, Nketiah scored his second goal of the European season from close range.
Four minutes later, Arsenal extended their advantage when Rob Holding headed in the second goal from a fantastic Fabio Vieira cross.
Glimt believed Holding committed a foul to escape his defender, but VAR did not launch an investigation.
The visitors were superior in the second half, dominating the ball more and forcing Matt Turner to make a few excellent stops.
Fabio Vieira scored Arsenal's third goal of the evening in the final 10 minutes, assisted by a candidate for the assist of the season from Gabriel Jesus, who beat multiple players before passing the ball on.
Arsenal snapped a three-game home winless streak in Europe, their longest in over two decades, and ended Glimt's undefeated Europa League start emphatically.
After Arsenal F.C.'s easy victory, Mikel Arteta also spoke to the media
Mikel Arteta was all praise for his team's play. After the match, he spoke to media persona and said, "Really happy with the win, six points now and a clean sheet."
"But in general I think we lacked a bit of connection today between the players; too many simple things, too many giveaways. We weren't that consistent and that dominant throughout the game."
"In the final third we looked very dangerous... The goals we scored were good goals."
He also praised 23-year-old Nketiah for his overall performance, who has already scored two goals and has assisted 10 for Arsenal this season.
"Obviously his work rate, attitude, and application is just phenomenal, but he's got this natural ability [to score] and he does it every time," Arteta told reporters.
He also briefed on bringing in first-half changes, "A few players, you could see they had a different intensity, not enough exposure, enough minutes, so we had to make changes."
The rematch will occur next Thursday in Norway, while Arsenal hosts Liverpool on Sunday in an enticing English Premier League match.
Arsenal is in first place in Group A with six points after two matches, two more than Bodo/Glimt, who are in third place but have played one more game.
