Erik Ten Hag calls on Juventus' Adrien Rabiot as Manchester United waits for Mom's approval
Manchester United and Juventus have negotiated a £15 million deal for Adrien Rabiot; however, the transaction is not yet finalised as his mother needs to approve
The Red Devils are interested in bringing the France international to Old Trafford if they cannot sign Barcelona talisman Frenkie de Jong.
However, the Premier League club has yet to sign a contract with the midfielder.
After reaching an agreement with Juventus for a reputed £15 million ($18 million), Manchester United have begun talks with Rabiot's agent and mother, Veronique.
Although personal terms have not yet been agreed upon, the midfielder is said to be looking for a way out of Turin this summer.
Rabiot, 27, was a fixture in Massimiliano Allegri's starting lineup last season but has now entered the final year of his Allianz Stadium contract and missed the club's pre-season tour of the United States owing to personal reasons.
Rabiot has played for several famous coaches, including Massimiliano Allegri, Andrea Pirlo, Didier Deschamps, Carlo Ancelotti, and Unai Emery.
Rabiot is a "complete player," according to Pirlo, and his considerable experience can aid Manchester United's troubled midfield.
What remains to be seen is if Rabiot will be the only midfielder to join the club or whether there will be others. Guido Rodriguez of Real Betis and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic of Lazio have also been mentioned.
Manchester United is also looking for a forward. The club is under pressure to bring in new players following an unproductive transfer window and a home defeat to start the season.
Erik Ten Hag calls Rabiot
Adrien Rabiot is said to have agreed to join Manchester United after speaking with Erik ten Hag over the phone, and a 'deal should be reached with Juventus.
United's interest in the France international was revealed following their poor opening day loss to Brighton on Sunday.
According to reports, Ten Hag spoke with Rabiot on Monday "to express how keen he is for him to join."
The 27-year-old has informed the Serie A club that he wishes to depart and that a 'deal should be made for around £15 million.
Rabiot has one year left on his Juventus contract and is said to have been eyeing a move to the Premier League since the end of last season.
While he would love to play Champions League football, he is willing to join United to obtain first-team experience ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.
Rabiot made his Ligue 1 debut a decade ago this month. He was only a teenager when he helped Paris Saint-Germain win the 2013-14 league title, winning Carlo Ancelotti's trust.
Soon after turning 21, he made his senior debut for France.
Rabiot stayed at Parc des Princes for another five years, winning the league and both French cups on many occasions.
He later joined Juventus and is trying to find a way out as The Red Devils shut in on him.
