Erik Ten Hag next at Manchester United FC
Manchester United confirms that Ajax boss Erik ten Hag will be their next permanent manager after the current season ends.
The English club has been without a permanent boss ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made his exit in November. At the beginning of the season, the club was managed under Michael Carrick and then Ralf Rangnick took the reigns as an interim manager for the rest of the season.
With the option of an additional year of extension, Ten Hag signed a contract until June 2025. Ten Hag will be the fifth full-time manager hired by Manchester United in 9 years since former manager Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down.
Erik Ten Hag accepts his role at Manchester United FC
Erik Ten Hag’s biggest task in his coaching career awaits after accepting the role of Manchester United manager.
The Dutchman was honoured to be appointed as the manager and admitted that he is excited about the challenges which come with the job. Keeping the club’s history in mind and the past glory, Ten Hag stated his desire to build a capable team and deliver Manchester United the success they deserve.
However, the Dutchman was also reminiscing about Ajax FC but he ensured that he will be fully focused on his club for this season and conclude their campaign successfully before moving to Manchester United.
Returning Manchester United to their former glory would be a monumental task. The club won the last 20th English titles in 2013, marking Sir Alex Ferguson's final season as the manager of his 26-year reign, and has not won a trophy since beating Ajax FC in the Europa League final in 2017.
The report suggests that Ten Hag will receive a sum of £200m to spend on signings this summer, and as many as 12 players could depart.
Ajax and Manchester United have agreed to a compensation package of £2.5m for Erik ten Hag and his assistant Mitchell van der Gaag.
Erik Ten Hag’s early career and first coaching job
Ajax's 52-year-old boss wants to win a third Eredivisie title and then move to Old Trafford on an extended three-year contract that includes an option for a fourth year.
Ten Hag will be leaving Ajax after restoring their pride at the top of European football's Champions League table and dominating domestically during his four-year tenure.
Would take a great effort to achieve a similar turnaround in the United after almost a decade of doldrums. Ten Hag has a remarkable managerial record, despite his unusual route to one of the most coveted jobs.
His football career included three stints with FC Twente where he was captain for the 2001 Dutch Cup.
His journey as a coach started at Twente, where he worked alongside Steve McLaren, an ex-Manchester United assistant and England manager.
Ten Hag was a first-time manager and got Go Ahead Eagles promoted into the top-flight Dutch football.
He decided to test himself in the Eredivisie and instead took over Bayern Munich's reserve team in the fourth-tier German football.
Pep Guardiola was the Bayern boss during his two years in Munich. Ten Hag wanted to learn as much as possible from him and the culture of working with a European giant.
