English Premier League: Seasons in which the EPL Title was decided on the final day
Manchester City and Liverpool will be the two rivals fighting for the EPL Title of 2021-22. While Manchester City holds the top position on the table with 90 points, Liverpool is only a single point behind them with 89 points. City and Liverpool have a goal difference of 72 and 66, respectively
The close fight between the two will decide this year's champion on the final day after the contenders have played their last opponents.
Manchester City will be facing Aston Villa, while Liverpool will be against Wolves on the final day. Though City is more likely to fetch the title this season, they have a form against Aston Villa, if at all, might push the Reds to secure the top position.
Like this year, a couple of times that the fans didn't know the winner until the final day. The points held by each finalist have often been so close that the title was decided by the last goal secured by a team.
Manchester City 3-2 QPR - May 13, 2012
The iconic moment in Premier League history, City's heroic injury-time comeback to snatch the title from rivals United, will always be in every city fan. Sergio Aguero's thumping winner was legendary, as was Martin Tyler's famous commentary. Cue pandemonium.
In 2013-14, when Liverpool was again this close to securing the title, City swooped in the last two weeks and ended the season with the highest points. Reds concluded the year with 84 points, only two points less than the winners, Man City.
May 5, 2014: Crystal Palace 3-3 Liverpool - May 5, 2014
This was one of the iconic matches of the Premier League era. Liverpool was expected to take the three points and the cup and had gone into a three-goal lead. It seemed all set to win the match and the title.
Crystal Palace had a different script; they managed a stunning comeback completed by Dwight Gayle's equaliser. The scene on the field where Steven Gerrard got him up and the picture of a tearful Suarex with his shirt kept firmly over his head and walking is itched in forever.
Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham, May 2, 2016
Tottenham's title hopes were hanging by a thread as they and Leicester were the last two standing in the race to lift the Premier League trophy. Chelsea was up 2-0, and then everything went downhill for them. With the game moving away from them, they lost all discipline and lashed out at an almost constant rate before Eden Hazard destroyed their dreams with an equaliser seven minutes from time.
In 2018-19, the fight for the title was again between Liverpool and City. While Liverpool too succeeded in defeating the Wolves 2-0, City's big win 4-1 against Brighton Hove & Albion fetched them the trophy.
