English Premier League: Changes are coming to the season 2022-2023
The 2022-23 Premier League season will kick off with a match between Arsenal and Crystal Palace on August 6
The upcoming edition of the biggest football league in the world will feature several new features for the 2022-23 season.
The 2022-23 Premier League season will be split into two parts with a mid-season break to accommodate the 2022 FIFA World Cup schedule set to take place in Qatar from November 21 to December 18.
Let us take a look at changes announced by the Premier League:
Multiball system is coming back.
The Multiball system helps to limit delays and keep the game flowing by immediately resuming the game with a different ball when the original match ball goes out of play.
A total of ten balls will be used under the new system instead of using a single ball. One ball will be in play, one will be with the fourth official, while the remaining eight will be spread around the pitch in different locations.
Match Postponements
Requests by clubs to the board to postpone matches if a club has an insufficient number of players will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
The postponement will be approved if the club has taken all possible steps, and the absence of players in the squad will significantly impact the performance.
Five Substitutes
The number of substitutes managers can make in a match has been increased from three to five, following a meeting held between the clubs earlier this year.
The number of substitutes that can name has also increased from seven to nine. The substitutions can be made on three occasions and during halftime.
Penalty rules
The new penalty rule has changed the position of the goalkeeper when a penalty corner kick is taken.
The keeper can not stand fully behind or ahead of the goalline and must keep a part of one food above or on the line.
Per the new rules, the keeper must keep one foot behind or on the goalline when the ball is kicked.
Clarification of the offside rule
An office player will not become onside when a defender touches the ball with the new rules.
Deliberately playing of the ball by defenders has been clarified by International Football Association Board. An official said, "Deliberate play is when a player has control of the ball with the possibility of passing the ball to a team-mate, gaining possession of the ball, or clearing the ball. If the pass, attempt to gain possession or clearance by the player in control of the ball is inaccurate or unsuccessful, this does not negate the fact that the player deliberately played the ball."
Four new match officials
Professional Game Match Officials Limited has promoted Tom Bramall, Steve Meredith, Natalie Aspinall and Nick Greenhalgh to referee the Premier League matches.
