Durand Cup 2022: ATK Mohan Bagan fails again to beat Mumbai City

    The thrilling Durand Cup clash between ATK Mohan Bagan and Mumbai City at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, West Bengal, on August 24 ended with a 1-1 draw

    It was the first meeting between ATK Mohan Bagan and Mumbai City in the Durand Cup. However, both squads have faced each other five times in Indian Super League, with Mumbai City winning four matches and the fifth ending in a draw.

    Within the regulation time, Liston Colaco in the 40th minute was the lone goalscorer for ATK Mohun Bagan, while Jorge Pereyra Díaz in the 77th minute was the only one to score for Mumbai City.

    ATK Mohan Bagan dominated the ball throughout the first half and launched back-to-back attacks on Mumbai City's defence. Liston Colaco got close to opening the scoring for ATK Mohan Bagan, but his left-footed strike came off the goalpost.

    Joni Kauko and Florentin Pogba made an excellent run into the Mumbai City circle. However, Pritam Kotal prevented them from scoring in a moment of defensive brilliance.

    ATK Mohan Bagan finally got a breakthrough in the 40th minute when Liston Colaco slotted the ball into the net past the Mumbai City goalkeeper Lachenpa on a cross by Asish Rai.

    Mumbai City immediately went on a counterattack, and Greg Stewart sent a beautiful aerial pass to Bipin Singh, but ATK Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Vishal Kaith saved the shot. 

    ATK Mohun Bagan dominated Mumbai City in the second half with excellent passing, quick counterattacks and run along the flanks.

    Indian midfielder Sanjeev Stalin sent a cross into the ATK Mohun Bagan, and Pereyra Diaz headed the ball into the goal to level the score for Mumbai City.

    ATK Mohun Bagan kept building pressure on the Mumbai City defense in the hope of regaining their lead. Manvir Singh and Kiyan got a fantastic opportunity to score the winning goal for ATK Mohun Bagan. 

    The final shot taken by Manvir Singh went off target as the match ended with Mumbai City maintaining their unbeaten record against ATK Mohun Bagan.

    Mumbai City now stands at the top of Group B with four points from two matches, while ATK Mohun Bagan is in the fourth spot with one point from two games.

    ATK Mohun Bagan will lock horns with Emami East Bengal in their third group stage match on August 28.
