Chelsea slips with a 2-2 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers
Wolverhampton Wanderer's goal in the 97th minute stunned the Blues in front of their incoming owner Todd Boehly at Stamford Bridge despite Romelu Lukaku's impressive second-half double
There was a moment of celebration for Thomas Tuchel when Lukaku scored his first Premier League goals of 2022 and set up a 2-0 lead, only to be crushed in the match's final moments. They couldn't maintain the lead and their defence crumbled with time as Francisco Trincao scored in the 79th minute, and Connor Coady netted another goal for the visitors in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
Arsenal might slip past Chelsea.
Tuchel was left disheartened because of the defeat considering Arsenal's current tally of points. The Gunners could decrease their deficit if they beat Leeds on Sunday. The Chelsea boss admitted that they took too many risks and lost discipline in the formation. In the last few minutes of the first half, Chelsea scored twice in four minutes, only to find both goals cancelled by referee Peter Bankes. The first one was struck by Timo Werner, whose goal was ruled out due to contact with Romain Saiss. The second by Ruben Loftus-Cheek was declared offside.
Pedro Neto shot past Silva and elicited an impressive save from Edouard Mendy. Then, Rayan Ait-Nouri took his aim at a pass from Willy Boly but sliced wide. Chelsea scored their first goal through a penalty, offered by VAR Gillett for a foul by Saiss on Lukaku. He then scored his first Premier League goal since one against Brighton in December 2021. After 138 seconds, his ball touched the net again. He scored from the edge of the box utilising a misplaced shot from Wolves out of defence.
Wolverhampton Wanderer's substitutes prove to be the heroes of the match.
Chelsea couldn't extend their lead, and the three Wolves subs proved their talents. Trinaco scored in the 79th minute, moving past Mendy from the edge of the area to touch the net. Again, Coady levelled from a cross delivered by another substitute, Chiquinho. Chelsea, winner of one out of their last five games, will visit Leeds on Wednesday, hoping to regain their lost form before Saturday'sSaturday's FA Cup final against Liverpool.
