Chelsea and Manchester United set for summer transfer battle over Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix

Man United and Chelsea look set to battle it out in the summer for the transfer of Joao Felix with price tag revealed.

    Joao Felix. Joao Felix.

<p>Felix joined Chelsea on loan during their January spending spree with the Blues paying around &pound;10million for the loan fee.</p>

<p>During his first game at the club, the attacker was sent off after an unwarranted tackle during the match.</p>

<p>Since then, Felix has shown moments of class and has made himself known as one of the best players in Chelsea's team.</p>

The former Benfica player joined Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2019 for a whopping fee of £113million.

<p>During his time at Atletico he failed to meet the expectations set by his price tag, only contributing to eight goals during the 2022/23 season.</p>

Another factor to be considered is the strained relationship between himself and the Atletico manager, Diego Simeone.

The relationship between the pair is one of the key reasons why the Portugal international chose to leave the club in January.

Despite this, before joining Chelsea, he signed a year extension with the club which takes his deal to June 2027.

<p>He has been a solid player for the Blues but it feels he hasn't yet shown the full potential he possesses.&nbsp;</p>

Following his performances so far, the interest of both Chelsea and Man United have been peaked and each are looking to make a move for the 23-year-old this summer.

One of the main barriers in striking a deal with Atletico and either Chelsea or United is the fee the Spanish clubs desires.

<p>This is because, the figure they value Felix at stands at an astonishing &pound;90million.</p>

A fee this high would mean that including the loan fee, the club will have only lost £12million on the player during his time at the club.

This creates another problem for Boehly and Chelsea as they have spent over £500million across the last year or so.

<p>This could mean that the Blues may prefer the idea of another loan move with an option or obligation to buy.</p>

<p>If this is the case, The Red Devils may be able to swoop in for the player and pip the West London club to the post.</p>

It is no surprise that United are keeping their options for an attacker wide as the main area their team lacks is a solid number nine.

Ten Hag signed Wout Weghorst on loan in January in order to provide cover but the move hasn't gone as well as the club would've hoped.

As previously mentioned, United would have to break their transfer record yet again in order to acquire the forwards services.

A transfer is also dependent on whether or not the Red Devils qualify for Champions League football next year as Felix will no doubt want to play in that competition.

With Felix's goal contributions in the Premier League only amassing to two so far, will it be too big of a risk for Ten Hag to take?
