Chelsea defeats Southampton 6-0; Alonso opens the scoring for Chelsea

    Chelsea won against Southampton 6-0 in a Premier League match at St Mary’s Stadium on April 9, 2022. It was an easy win for the current Champions League titleholders.

    Chelsea was extremely dominant over Southampton from start to finish. They easily sliced through Southampton's defence to score four goals in the first half. They had controlled 71% of the ball and 24 shots.

    Marcos Alonso in the 8th minute, Mason Mount in the 16th and 54th minute, Timo Werner in the 21st and 49th minute and Kai Havertz in the 39th minute were the goal scorers for Chelsea, while none of the players from Southampton was able to score.

    After receiving a perfect pass from the English attacker Mason Mount, Alonso opened the scoring for Chelsea with a left-footed low-level shot into the bottom right corner of the goal. Just eight minutes later, Mount doubled the lead with a long-range shot from just outside the box on Ruben Loftus Cheek's low cross.

    Chelsea did not stop after two goals; They ended the first half with a lead of 4-0. Timo Werner scored the third goal after getting his foot on James Ward-Prowse's misplaced header. He went past the Southampton keeper Fraser Forster and shot the ball into an empty net. Kai Havertz scored the fourth goal for Chelsea after Timo Werner's shot got deflected from the right-hand part of the goal post.

    Both Timo Werner and Mason Mount scored their second goals of the match just nine minutes into the second half, widening the lead to 6-0.

    No further goals were scored by either side and Chelsea emerged victorious with a score of 6-0.

    Chelsea was in total control of the game. They had 71% possession compared to 29% of Southampton and a pass accuracy of 88%.

    They took 14 shots on target while Southampton just took one.

    The current Champions League title holders will lock horns with Real Madrid in the second leg of the quarter-final match of the Champions League at Santiago Bernabéu on April 13.
