Champions League: Son Hueng-Min's effort leads to Spurs' 3-2 win after falling behind
Son Heung-Min's and Harry Kane's penalty earned Tottenham Hotspur a critical 3-2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday, as Spurs took a significant step toward advancing to the Champions League knockout stages
Spurs overcame an early deficit against the defending Europa League champions due to a goal from Daichi Kamada with two goals from Son. He scored on either side of Kane's penalty kick.
Son Heung-brilliant min's performance helped Tottenham come from behind and defeat Eintracht Frankfurt with ten men to move to the top of Champions League Group D.
Spurs needed a victory after being beaten to a 0-0 draw in the rematch in Germany last week, but they fell behind after a sluggish start.
In the end, the offence uncovered the shaky defence, and there was a little mistake who stole the show.
Eric Dier made a terrible start to the game, following an early yellow card with a disastrous heavy touch that allowed Daichi Kamada to score with a straightforward tap-in 14 minutes into the must-win game. But after twenty minutes of inactivity, Tottenham began to play.
Harry Kane dropped deep, feinted his opponent, and passed the ball behind the Frankfurt defence to Son, who raced in and calmly slotted it past Kevin Trapp to tie the game 1-1.
The floodgates then opened. Shortly after Kristijan Jakic inadvertently blocked Kane's passage in the box, Kane converted a penalty kick to make the score 2-1. Before halftime, Son's thunderous volley made the score 3-1.
Tuta, a Brazilian defender for Frankfurt, was issued a second yellow card by referee Carlos del Cerro Grande in the second half and was consequently sent off at the hour mark. Frankfurt was reduced to 10 men.
Faride Alidou's late header off a corner kick drew one back for the Germans, and Harry Kane missed a penalty in stoppage time, but Spurs held on for the victory
Antonio Conte makes his views clear on the win
After nearly wasting a two-goal advantage against Eintracht Frankfurt with ten men in the Champions League, Antonio Conte told his Tottenham players that they must maintain their focus.
Although Spurs ultimately prevailed 3-2 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Hugo Lloris was called upon to preserve the three points in a dramatic conclusion.
"It's strange to explain the final result is only 3-2 because I think what happened during the game, we should score many, many goals and we stayed until the end," Antonio Conte told media. "We have to learn about the situation that the game has never ended and we have to go and stay into the game."
"[It's a significant win for us, but we start in a brutal way because we conceded the first goal and scored three goals, giving ourselves many chances to improve. Now we are leading our group. We play Sporting Lisbon, and we have to try to get three points to go to the next round.
Tottenham is now in a very advantageous situation, as Marseille's 2-0 victory against Sporting Lisbon played right into their hands, propelling Antonio Conte's squad to the top of Group D with seven points after four games.
