Can Chelsea rebuild and regroup in the upcoming summer transfer
Chelsea has been on the verge of collapse after Roman Abramovich was forced to put the Blues up for sale. The team needs at least two defenders, better strikers and a general boost in every section of Thomas Tuchel's XI lineup
Luckily, Todd Boehly is looking to splurge during the upcoming transfer and is determined to improve the club. Here is a brief note regarding all the possibilities that have befallen the team!
Chelsea is in dire need of defenders.
Now that Chelsea is allowed to make purchases, Todd Boehly might invite two new centre backs to the team due to the gaping hole in their defence. The departure of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen has left the team bare. Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, and Marcos Alonso are expected to follow their way out, so Boehly will be forced to chew more than he can bite. Chelsea was exempted from spending in the recent months, but now that the takeover has been approved, the Blues are expected to welcome a new string of players.
Other than defenders, the team also needs strikers or centre forwards. After Diego Costa's exit, Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku were the next to struggle. Meanwhile, Jorginho and N'Golo Kante are heading towards the last year of their contracts. Saul Niguez will be offloaded to his sender, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek lacks the form, leaving Mateo Kovacic as the only reliable team member other than Edouard Mendy. So Kepa Arrizabalaga might pack his bags and be replaced by a new backup. Players linked to Chelsea include West Ham player Declan Rice, Jules Kunde, Josko Gvardiol, Christopher Nkunku, and Marc Cucurella.
The Chelsea takeover will be an event to remember.
Since Rudiger and Christensen already departed before they could even put offers on the table, the Blues might want to keep Mason Mount beyond the two years remaining on his existing contract by increasing his pay. The Blues can offload other lesser calibre players and help streamline Tuchel's squad. Chelsea is still unsure about the players leaving, so they have to be as firm in securing sales with their purchases. According to reports, Boehly would be investing £200million to strike up new deals.
If Azpilicueta and Alonso follow Rudiger and Christensen through the door, substantial money would be spent on securing top-notch defenders. When it comes to Boehly's teams, he is a lavish spender. In the first four years of his LA Dodgers stewardship as president of the Guggenheim Baseball management, the MLB franchise spent $1billion for scouting new players. If Chelsea aims to maintain their current ranking in the top three, they would need Boehly to spend the reported figure of £200million.
