Brentford vs Tottenham ends in a goalless tie
Tottenham tied against Brentford 0-0 in a Premier League match at the Brentford Community Stadium in Brentford, United Kingdom, on April 23, 2022.
Spurs missed the golden opportunity to gain a one-point lead over Arsenal at the fourth spot to gain a Champions League spot.
Both the squads were almost evenly on the field. Tottenham took 15 shots compared to nine by Brentford but controlled 44% of the ball, while Brentford had 56% possession.
It seemed like the Spurs were on track for a Champions League spot, but it looks like the opportunity is going out of their grasp. They have handed the opportunity to get the fourth spot back to Arsenal by grabbing just one point from a possible six in their last two games. They have failed to score even a single goal in the second consecutive match.
Tottenham tried all they could to attack. However, their attackers, Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min, failed to break Brentford’s wall of defence and were constantly hounded by defenders.
Spurs defender Eric Dier commented, “They made it difficult throughout, but we made it difficult for ourselves. We didn’t create enough chances.
It seems like Brighton has some bright days ahead; They have bounced back from the brink of relegation, amassing 40 points. Brentford has turned their fortunes by winning five of their last six Premier League matches. They could have potentially defeated Tottenham too.
The manager of Tottenham, Antonio Conte, was left surprised after the tie. He said, “We have to continue to improve because I think it is not enough if we want to stay in this race. For sure, in November you cannot imagine receiving this question. Now we are in the race and we have to stay. We know it is very difficult.
