Borussia Monchengladbach fret over key duo ahead of Bayern Munich clash

Borussia Monchengladbach's hopes of turning their fortunes around could be hampered by fitness concerns for two key players ahead of Saturday's Bundesliga fixture against Bayern Munich.

Gladbach coach Daniel Farke has revealed that lead striker Marcus Thuram and starting right-back Joe Scally missed out on Wednesday's squad training session due to calf-related muscular issues.

Farke said on the club's website, "We have to wait and see with Marcus and over the next few days. It's going to be really tight for both of them insofar as the game on Saturday is concerned."

The foals' European dream is slipping away, having lost four of their six Bundesliga fixtures. They currently sit in 10th place with 26 points on the table.

Their unexpected defeat to relegation-threatened Hertha BSC on Sunday raised serious doubts about the quality of Farke's side.

"Thuram still hasn't managed to get off the mark in the new calendar year," said Farke, adding that his striking options are limited.

Meanwhile, Scally's absence would be sorely felt against a Bayern side with dangerous threats on the left, including Alphonso Davies, Kingsley Coman, and Joao Cancelo.

Farke added, "The clubs have to look after the players, but it's important for us to focus on the game and try to get a positive result."
