Bayern Munich's Lucas Hernandez nearing return after four-month injury lay-off
Bayern Munich's French defender Lucas Hernandez has been out of action for almost four months after sustaining an injury during the FIFA World Cup.
However, the 27-year-old has recently returned to training, and a timetable for his return has been established. German news outlet Bild reports that Hernandez is approximately two months away from a comeback.
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann addressed the situation during his weekly press conference, and said, "It's nice that he's running again. But it's a serious injury. I haven't spoken to the doctors yet. There's no need to rush anything. When he comes back healthy, we will all be very happy."
The return of Hernandez will be a significant boost for Bayern Munich. Even though the club currently boasts a strong centre-back duo of Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano, having Hernandez back in the team will provide additional depth and options for the coach.
Nagelsmann is known for his preference for playing with three centre-backs, and Hernandez's return will undoubtedly be beneficial to the team's tactical flexibility.
Hernandez's recovery progress is welcome news for Bayern fans, who have seen the club suffer numerous injury setbacks this season. Bayern's captain and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer also appears to be making progress in his own recovery, ahead of schedule.
