Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry speaks out against unfair criticism
Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry opened up about the intense scrutiny he and Leroy Sane have faced lately.
Despite being highly-paid stars, they aren't currently the first names on Julian Nagelsmann's team sheet, which often leads to fan focus and unwarranted criticism.
Gnabry, 27, spoke candidly about the issue in an interview with Sky Sports Germany after Bayern's 5-3 win over Augsburg on Saturday, in which he started.
"I guess that's part of the game. I can't fend off every statement that appears on TV," Gnabry said. "But sometimes I think it's a bit too much. At some point, it's enough.
"For me, it doesn't make much sense to put the blame on two people. But as an athlete, you have to deal with it when it targets you or your teammates."
Sane, on the other hand, had an impressive performance during the match against Augsburg, adding a goal and an assist to the scorecard. Gnabry, too, scored a goal in the 89th minute during Bayern's Champions League win over PSG earlier in the week.
Gnabry's words are a good reminder that the players are all human first, and that in a large squad, there are phases to a season and spells for every player to shine.
